I've been using the SLDR for a couple of years now & liked it a lot. However, I made the mistake of trying am M1 when I went to have my lofts & lies checked & finished up buying one. Since I've sold the SLDR & don't collect the M1 until Friday I've been to the range a couple of times with my old, unsaleable (it's got my avatar printed on the head! ) RBZ, series 1. The way I've been hitting it is unbelievable. There's been a very strong wind against at the range & yet the distances I've been getting are not much short of where the SLDR was going. Everything feels out of the middle, although I'm sure that's not the case.

What made me buy the M1 was the distance I was getting out of heel hits & the extra 10 to 15 yards it gave me on the rare occasions I got it out of the middle.

I feel as if I've been playing with the metal wood equivalent of a blade club & making the game a lot harder for myself. Can't wait for the arrival of the M1 & the wind dropping to see how things go on the course. Think I need all the forgiveness I can get.

SLDR knocks off a lot of spin so some players have trouble getting it flighted, especially if they are low ball hitters, don't generate massive club speed or have bought one with a shaft with a bit too much heft for them. You might need to crank the loft up to the max.

i had a SLDR, hit it really well, good better distance than the prev driver as well, got the best results with the TP shaft. played with someone at the start of last year in a comp and he said " you hit that driver really well, i found it so unforgiving"

well from that moment on i don't think i hit a decent shot with it, sold it rather hastily on here with the spare stock shaft... regretted it within. weeks.

its all in the head

Wasn't that, I could still hit it too high with the Black Tie shaft, and out of the middle it went great. Just too unforgiving.

I am tempted to go for the Ping G series on release for this. SLDR is great, but can be very unforgiving. Happy to go back to something larger head, and easier to hit if it means a bit more forgiveness and straighter!

I'm booked in for a driver fitting on Monday. Testing the latest drivers first then get fitted for the one I like best.

So New Ping G Series, M1, Cally etc.

I had a long chat with the fitter last week when I booked and he was raving about the M1 saying just about every one he'd fitted over the past couple of months had walked out with an one. So be interested to see the M1 and the G Series side by side as my last 2 drivers have been Ping.

tbh, I'm not overly bothered by brand or looks. I'll go with what gives me the best numbers.

Absolutely love mine - think the matrix black tie shaft has lots to do with it!

Ditto, but I've only ever owned and known the SLDR so god knows what I could do with something else. 🏌⛳️

Another non lover of the SLDR. When it goes it really goes. Shame I'm not good enough for it.

Gone back to the g10, loads more forgiving. Both in stock reg shafts

I'm on the same page too, I got fit for a new driver yesterday as I found the SLDR very hit & miss. I had some good drives with it but my bad ones were awful, I also didn't like the way it felt when I swung it.

I ended up going for a G30 LS Tec with a tour shaft, it feels better my dispersion was better & I gained 5mph ball speed/18 yards of carry on average.

I would like to try the M1 but I can't justify spending £399 on a driver & I doubt it would give me better numbers than the Ping which I paid £205 for brand new.

I know someone just down the road from you who is just about to get a new driver, and get rid of a SLDR;)

Inn't the M2 out any day now which is much the same as a M1 but without one of the sliding weights? Plus it's at a cheaper price point? But then again it won't be £205 and the G30 is a quality wood.

Yes I did see that it was due out soon but I would think it will be priced around the £300 mark which is more than I wanted to spend.

I had much the same problem with a TM R1 driver, although it was OK once I had set the loft to the maximum 12 degrees. Don't think the R1 or the SLDR were really designed for slow swinging players like me! I have tried an M1 and it did seem much better at getting the ball into the air and more forgiving of off centre hits. :mmm:

Well this confirms exactly what a good pro told me, his words were "SLDR is not forgiving". This was said nearly a year ago, and the pro is/was Dave Fletcher now at Brancepath formally Chester-le-Street
