We have an old white Sky box. My bill is about £47 a month. I have been a Sky customer for about 10 years. My old white Sky box is showing signs of death, it wont successfully record two things at once, it does not like to fast forward adverts and so on.

I call sky, they have me do some bits and for a day or two things are better but soon we are back to problems. I call back and concede that the box is dieing. The tech support guy then turns into a salesman and every single option open to me costs me money.

My issue... in order to keep taking £47 a month from me I need to have a box... In order to get a new box my bill goes up... I just dont want to give them any more money!!! I only have the sport for the F1 anyways, the rest of it is rubbish! (apart from 4 golf tournaments).

I warned the tech guy to stop trying to sell to me, I then told him to... I then hung up. He called me back and put me though to retentions who still wanted to up my bill.

Is my best option to just find a box on ebay?

Without upgrading to HD then guess you could get a box on eBay

Just tell them your leaving Alex and going to bt or Virgin, they will get you a new box and if they don't just go to Virgin who will give you a brand new box for free.free had box I think with Virgin.

Just tell them you want to cancel everything. If they don't offer you a free box straight away they'll get back in touch during the 30 day cancelation period & offer you a free box.

I have... lets see what happens... Am I being unreasonable?... I really just want what I already have.

Your main problem, if you just want what you have, is that the okd Sky+ boxes (white) are no longer made or available from Sky themselves.
I am not sure why your bill would go up as its not the box you are paying for.
Seems your big problem will be that 99.9% of boxes will now be HD.
Sky will more tham likely cave and offer you a replacement but it will almost certainly be HD.

No in my opinion your not,had the same problem years ago so they gave me a new box . Had trouble with my broadband they sent me a new router! Both times I just said no problem can I cancel my contract please. Conversation changed to how much can we do for you then.

Cool, ye, no particular interest in HD, never been or seen a TV that I thought looked better with HD.

Try phoning up to cancel and see what you get ?

And after watching HD can see the difference when you go to SD - superb for films

you can have a HD box but not have an HD subscription, they dont like you doing so but it is possible. That said Al, if you couldnt see the difference then youve not seen a decent TV with HD, like night and day (says the guy who still watches the cricket in SD as the pics are slightly faster)

There must be hundreds of thousands of 2nd hand boxes out there (even your friends and relies will have them) just get a one that you know works, swap it out, phone sky to pair the card to new box (nowt complicated & no engineer etc and no costs to you other than the time/call) new box working in about 20 minutes

I have hd multi room, but only have an hd sky plus box upstairs. The downstairs box is an old sky box, not even sky plus.

They will give me an HD sky plus box free for downstairs, but because they have to mess about with the cabling, the installation cost is daft, so I haven't done it. The upstairs dish has its own dish, as it is miles from the lounge.

That said, there is a massive difference in picture quality between upstairs and downstairs. I am amazed that you can't see the difference.
