Single Length Irons

If that were the case, the golf club market would be a lot smaller and I bet a number of manufacturers would be well out of business!!

Don't get your point....???
I hit with the face
I look down at the head shape and top line
I don't hit with the back of the club, nor do I care what colour scheme or design is in the back ( cavity ) of the club

Surely you don't look at the back of the clubhead and think, wow, they look fantastic.....???

I , like most I know , judge the club how it sits at address.....

But the back of the club is what you see when they are sticking out of your bag. Yes, it is aesthetics but all the top mfrs would not embelish their clubs unless people like that embellishment. Basically, we like to feel good about how our clubs look, top, back, front etc. It all matters to a lot of people. That may make me, and others, shallow but that's reality.

Clubs are tools, yeah nice flash ones are cool but if you don't score with them you look silly.
There really is nothing that offensive about the sterlings, all that matters is the score... A pretty card is bogey free.

Clubs need to be aesthetically pleasing or it just doesn't instil confidence. However, you can stand there with the sexiest looking irons (blades would be my favourites but I'm not good enough to do them justice) and not score so it has to come down to simply finding a set that gives you the degree of forgiveness you want and that suits your eye. That, like most things will simply vary from person to person

Very interesting. They have set them at 7 iron length. I think I'd take these for my long irons and have regular irons for irons above 7. First regular mfr to go down this route. It will be fun to see if others join in or Cobra are the only ones.

Pretty sure others may dally but I think this will be a fad in the same way as square headed drivers etc

Dear Golf Monthly and MikeH,

I'd like to submit my application early for the great opportunity that is going to come regarding getting a set of single length Cobra Forged One irons at the beginning of next year. To track the progress of the lucky 3 winners throughout the year, to see if single length irons improve their game.

Yours,
Matt, 29
Handicap: 6

yep count me in too Matt

had a chat with Tom Wishon about his version earlier in the year. Really like the concept, especially having longer shafts in the short irons. 2 main concerns for me would be getting enough wedge options and just how much longer the driver is going to be than my longest iron, may exaggerate just how bad i am with the driver lol

Hey Matt, if you cover the low handicap I can cover the higher ones, 22. We just need someone around 15-16 and then GM will have it covered. We've sorted out a nice comparison piece for GM and they didn't have to do anything 😁.

Happy days! Any takers? Now, to get Mike H and the team on board.

Wonder if they ever read these threads?!

Reading some posts from American forums those who have tried the single length irons won't go back to their regular irons. Is Aimpoint a fad too?

Ive been tempted to experiment with the single length irons from Wishon.

Sorry but I don't agree. I'll bite and no Aimpoint isn't a fad as a growing number of pros are demonstrating on tour. This concept has been around since the late 70's with Tiger Shark and it never caught on. There has to be a reason for that. I'm also far from convinced by some American forum posts saying these are the best thing ever. I'm happy to see how it develops, and no doubt others will jump onto the bandwagon but I still don't think they'll offer anything standard clubs and a half decent swing don't

im not asking you to bite at all Homer. I'm just mearly pointing out that you 'tried' something that others haven't and it works for you, I'm a big advocate of Aimpoint I'm just saying don't knock what you've not tried?

Tom Wishon has stated that single length clubs are nothing new as you rightly pointed out, but since the berth of the metal wood from the small TM metal wood and Callaway big berth the technology has improved and now we have the big heads and moveable technology and also a more of an understanding of biomechanics of the swing. With the components used for head design compared to the 70's and the advancement of shafts, I personally don't think it's a fad and it'll be around to stay but just like Aimpoint, you may have to try it but it certainly won't be mainstream.
