Single Length Irons

Read something on these earlier, I'd love to give them a go. Can see it being a lot more comfortable. It will probably turn out to be a very niche market. But I for one would love to give them a go. How comfortable it would feel playing a pitching wedge with a club as long as say a 7 iron for arguments sake, remains to be seen. But I'd try them if I got the chance.

Did wonder how long it would be before something like these made an appearance, personally I think it's quite a good idea as at-least your stance will be the same for every iron throughout the bag as to whether it'll work or not remains to be seen !...

Don't get it as the reason for having various length shafts is to generate more club head speed to make long irons go further is it not? Also like the confidence of shorter shafts in wedges etc as it gives me more confidence would feel awful with say a 7 iron length in a wedge for me personally but each to their own. What would the standard length be I wonder? Can't imagine a 3 iron would go too far with say a 6 iron shaft and similarly a PW would be tough to control with a 6 iron shaft. Just can't get my head around it tbh.

Same length irons came out in the mid 80's. Great white shark irons, endorsed by Greg Norman. You can pick a set up on 'bay for about £40.

Cheers Hobbit, I thought it sounded familiar but couldn't remember the name.

Actually, I want to say Tiger Shark, sound right ?

I guess in the days of Hybrids, losing a bit of distance on a 5 / 4 iron isn't an issue as you can pop a hybrid in there.

Interesting to see if they are conventionally numbered or simply show the degree of loft?

Your right Hobbit.
I recall 3 or 4 sets of these clubs were being used at our club.
They were "secret"of good golf at the time for some of the older guys .

Surely all these achieve is a shorter spread of distances between the most lofted and the least lofted. Sort of defeats the object of irons??? Also, I'd have thought the extra length, and therefore clubhead speed of the longer irons is needed to get the ball airborne with lower lofts? Does anyone know what "normal" iron they are the same length as?

Read somewhere that its around a 6 iron (decheambeaus I'm referring to)

Tom says it's the length of an 8i 36.5"
He wouldn't of gone into it half heartedly. Must be something in it, else I don't think he'd of bothered! Now whether there's a market for it then I'm not sure. Be interesting to try a set tho.

DeChambeau is rumoured to be keeping his Edel same length irons when he turns pro after The Masters, so his woods and putter are up for bidding by manufacturers. I think he will switch over to conventional irons, perhaps with a lower than average variation between them. No mainstream (i.e. big money for the player) manufacturer wants to market a set of same length irons again.

I suppose it could work for some golfers, as I suspect a lot of higher handicappers would benefit from having shorter shafts on the longer clubs and more chance to grove a repeatable swing to increase the chances of hitting the sweet spot.

I currently feel I have the same stance from my lowest wedge to my 3 wood. I can see the reasoning but it's just one of many approaches.

Do others use the same stance like me or do you vary across the set for full shots.

Only driving, pitching, bunkers and putting have their own stance which is varies slightly depending on shot and lie.

My irons (normal shots) are played in the centre of my stance, the 2 hybrid is a little forward as it feels awkward in centre for some reason.

My ball position has moved well forward this last year and my strikes have gone downhill.

Need to work on this but don't have the will to go to the range in this cold.

The reason the are all the same is so its less variation, I guess the irons are another way of doing that.

If the shafts were all the same length would I need different ball positions or can I do what I am doing now?

Personally I'd play the ball in the same position in my stance and let the loft dictate the distance.
