I realise this is a bit of a 'look at me' thread, but I'm super happy about the email I just received from the club. After this weekends competition I have been reduced to a handicap of 7.9! so I am down to single figures...

There are a few of us who made a bet last summer, first to singles wins the pot and 2 of us where quite close, and my last 3 rounds (over the last 3 weekends) were 72, 74 and 70 (Par 68) so went from 11.3 to 10.5 to 10.1 to 8.9 with a 1 shot ESR to 7.9!

It's quite tough to get cut at ours as the CSS is usually 66 but it has been 65 quite a lot this year, so my 70 on Saturday was very pleasing, with 4 birdies, including a VERY nervy one on the par 5 18th..

Next goal is a level par and under par round... 2 over is my best so far

Ye well done, thing now is the goal posts move. Cat 1 should be your next goal if you have time to get there next season.

Cheers guys,

I'll definitely keep pushing, and playing the winter 4ball tournament at our club with a girl off 3, so will be able to learn more shots too!

Thanks Bob, proper handicap! :-D

You see this is where chasing the rainbow comes in. It starts at trying to get under 18, then single figures, then cat 1 and you just keep chasing and believing til there comes a time when you get to a number you just can't get below. Lowest I got to was 4, can't ever see me getting there again but it's always good to have been there.

wow that is some drop

What changes do you put this new lower shooting to?
That's a tough one to answer, because I'm maybe not the best at knowing what I'm doing....

I will be having a lesson in the next couple of weeks though with our new pro, who specialises in the short game and I think my chipping/pitching could be tighter. My putting is generally pretty good, infact I'd say its the best part of my game, it's what keeps my scores going.

I have, however, made a conscious effort these last few weeks to hit my driver (I previously just used a 4 wood or even my 18 hybrid) and specifically I have really made an effort to not overswing with it. This has/is proving to be quite tough, as it just seems natural to overswing with the bloody thing!
What this has done, however, is made my timing with the driver a LOT better, which has resulted in me hitting further, but on a consistent basis.

When I hit it now, it FEELS like I'm only going as far back as say, John Rahm, but the reality is probably more like a full swing to anyone else. I make an effort to turn my wrists too, so the bad shot now is a pull hook, but touch wood, it doesn't happen often.

I still swing within myself but feel that if I need to I can go for it with the driver a bit more now without the results being disastrous!

I suppose now that I have to play off 8, I'm hoping it will force me to concentrate more, so I (hopefully) wont struggle too much.

We can all live in hope eih?..

Great effort. Are you still at Wimbledon Common? Who's the new pro? (has Jeff Jukes retired?). I can imagine that the course will have played short (I remember playing it in the summer of 76) but with the small greens there it's still hard to make a score. Very impressed by the way you've dropped so don't stop now and Cat 1 is next. Keep it going
