Hi all

I've organised a work golf day at Silvermere this coming Saturday.... we're down to 6 people now and the weather for the week looks shocking.

What can I expect from the place? the photos look good.

Cheers

Adam

It has a reputation for being really slow however I must have been lucky as I've never really found it much of an issue.

The first 6 (if memory serves) and last 2 holes are played on the clubhouse side of the road and they are really very picturesque with the rhododendrons lining each of the holes. The final couple are played over water and whilst the distances aren't that challenging the 17th needs to be pretty much all carry.

I was done there last week and they are doing course improvements which affects the back 9 at the moment. On their website they have the following: We are currently undergoing our next stage of course improvements. It means you may experience some disruption between holes 11-15 and up to 3 temporary greens. This is to allow us to complete new drainage works and the final stage of our bunker improvement program.

Completely agree with the two posts above. First 5 / 6 are good and 17 and 18. Rest of the course is fairly standard.

That being said, facilities are great, shops great, good food as well. Definitely a good day out!

played here on the GM Titleist day and its a course of 2 "halves." the holes on the same side of the road as the club house are nice, through the trees and decent but once you cross the road its pretty soulless and just liking playing golf in a big field and I found those few holes spoiled the course.

sounds like the perfect place for our round then..... :D handicaps are 8, 15, 15, 16, 24 and 28. Something for the players and a field for the higher handicappers. Should be good fun.

7 narrow tree-lined holes, across the road for 9 holes in a few cow fields and then two gimmick holes to finish.

Can't have too much history as I saw it being built.

PS Unless you mean the Estate which is quite interesting.
obviously no nothing about the lake or is it mere s history .it is the mere that Barnes Wallace tested the bouncing bomb on .
so i suppose not a lot of history then.
cant say about the clubhouse only that their burgers are pretty dam good.

totally agree about the burgers - they are good. in fact all the food is pretty decent.

Not sure the last two are gimmicky and think the last is a far stronger hole since becoming the island green. Agree that the holes over the road aren't great and it does get very wet and boggy, especially on these holes and so can see it being poor this weekend. The greens aren't great, (slow and bumpy) but as a one off it will do the job. Food is decent and the shop there has a huge range to tempt you

To me it's two courses, the one on the club house side of the road it pretty nice, the other is mediocre at best. Always a 6 hour round and never really in the greatest of condition .... This time of year can get very very boggy.

On a brighter note the pro shop is awesome although a tad expensive and the food is great

I think you'll find that Barnes Wallace designed the bouncing bomb at nearby Burhill Golf Club and tested them just off Chesil Beach, although any discerning golfer would have forgiven him for testing it on the holes over the road at Silvermere…. ;)
