Shrinking chocolate bars

All we have to do now is reduce the size of pop bottles. Pizzas. Take aways. And anything else that makes you obese. Been out today and the size if some folk is astonishing. Some poor kids are just huge and i mean huge. Some guys walking around in shorts and flip flops showing there massive guts like its a badge of honour. I swear its gonna end in tears.
Thing is with smoking. I got that re it killing you but sensible chocaholics are being punished.

there's not too much sugar in our food. the diet coke sits next to the regular coke, its not rocket science. its only a problem if you choose these foods in the first place. I'd say its more down to the bad food being more convenient. nothing worse than seeing a family sat in McDonald's on a Sunday afternoon. cook a family meal for God sake

See it regularly, with already obese kids shovelling food in a fast food outlet or shuffling through the hospital with cakes, crisps sweets and full fat drinks. There is an issue (and this is a generalisation) is that in many cases there parents also have bad dietary habits and it's therefore easier and comforting to cook pizza, chips etc to satisfy their own cravings and therefore subliminally tell their kids this is a normal/healthy diet. Add in a lack of exercise, a lack of a balanced diet and yo can see the cycle repeating over the next generation as well

Saw a cookery prog the other day, and they were looking at the sugar content in bought jars of tomato and basil pasta sauce. You would think there would be none, as its just tomato and basil, but no, it was about 5 or 6 tablespoon fulls per jar. Full fat coke was a healthier option.

yes but what people need to understand that naturally occurring sugar acts differently in the body. tomatoes contain fructose not glucose. both have the same glucomic index but fructose is taken to the liver first. a glass of orange juice is high in sugars but alot better for you than a glass of coke with the same amount of sugar

If the anti-sugar lobby are to be believed - no it doesn't. A molecule of fructose is a molecule of fructose, whether it comes from an orange, an organic bees honey, a mars bar or a can of full strength coke. Yes, as well as the sugar, the orange contains lots of nice vitamins and minerals and an orange has lots of nice fibre which slows the absorption of fructose. However, when you juice it you lose most of the fibre. And a glass of juice is very rarely the output of a single orange. So that nice glass of juice is the sugar from 3 or 4 oranges and almost none of the fibre.

Still better than a coke tho, but not necessarily totally healthy.

re- the pasta sauce. Dolmio's parent company is Mars (yes, them of the bars), and even they say that there's so much sugar in it that it should be an occasional treat rather than a staple.

Glucose, Fructose and Sucrose are all naturally occurring sugars. Sucrose (as in granulated table sugar) is a molecule of Glucose and Fructose combined. There's no difference in absorption because Sucrose is broken into Glucose and Fructose in the small intestine first.

By the way, Coca-Cola in the USA is made with Fructose in the form of corn syrup whereas in the UK it's made with Sucrose from sugar beet. So by the orange juice logic you can drink as much Coca Cola as you want provided you're in the USA because "it's the same sugar as fruit". Nonsense isn't it?

I did not make myself clear, this was added sugar, not sweetness from the tomatoes.

Pal of mine works at British sugar in Newark. Said theres a bit of squeaky bum
time over the governments views on sugar at the mo which could hit hia company hard.
