Fairway mats

It's winter golf, you use a mat, or you tee it up on the best piece of grass within the vicinity of your ball. If everybody does that, than surely there's no issue?

I use my spurk mar for most situations, it gives a huge advantage when you are trying to hit a picth shot into a green, and it avoids those 'sucky' fairway wood shots off muddy lies. Again, if the option is to use one, and you feel it gives you an advantage, then why wouldn't you use one?

^^^^^ This all the while.... means you can at least get some enjoyment from Winter golf & even continue with qualifiers if your Club embraces the Exceptional Weather conditions adjustments that EngGolf make available.

And that should close the thread on mats, the operative word is Enjoyment 👍

The irony of this Tashy me man, you’ve been talking about penalties and governance earlier in this thread.😂😂
Not really, surely the enjoyment of golf is enhanced in the cold wet miserable months of winter by using a mat. It becomes un enjoyable when folks cheat by using an aid. If a player can tee up his shot by using a mat, why not tee it up with a tee. 👍

During winter we will sometimes (often?...not sure) be able to set up the course to be WHS compliant - conditions and winter work often make that not possible - and on these days scores can be submitted. However I believe that use of my Spurk (or any other mat) is not permitted if I wish too submit a card at such times.

It’s not cheating if it’s the same for everybody, every type of mat gives an advantage to the golfer.
Some are overthinking winter golf.

Yes they are permitted so long as the course meets the other qualifying criteria.
