Government are looking at introducing smaller chocolate bars to help tackle obesity.

I swear everything is half the size already than it used to be or is it my imagination?

Who came up with that one?
Current sized bar of chocolate =45g
Reduce it to 30g.
Brilliant
Kids will buy 2 bars.

Result
Chocolate consumption up 33%

Is what I do, and did yesterday. And a great way to get more VAT into the coffers.

Can I just add, I'm not as kid...physically at least.

It's all smaller than it used to be - what is bloody strip is that I but the larger bars that are bigger than the standard bars used to be!!!!

It dont matter what size you make them. The same people that are overweight will still find a way to shovel them down there throats.

No easy answer, sedentary lifestyles and gaming for kids is equally as bad as some chocolate consumption. Up to parents and schools/councils to limit availability and educate better, get kids exercising more.
Cant help but feel any govt moves will be wangled somehow to get more treasury revenue through taxation, stealth taxes.

It's a shame that an idiotic policy implementation and headline grabbing is hiding the underlying and increasingly problematic issues of having too much sugar in our food and drink. There is a serious problem with sugar, people don't even realise they're eating it in most of their food let alone just how much of it.

And as for kids. I'm horrified by how much rubbish we let companies foist onto our children. Think things like yoghurts and fruit based food and drinks are good for kids? Look at how much sugar they contain and think again.

I don't disagree but remember when we used to stuff ourselves on penny shrimps, black jacks and fruit salads - and God knows what crap was in angel delight back in the day - and we only had full fat coke as well - diet drink was called Fresca!

We fought over who had the cream off the top of the silver bottle and had butter not 'tastes like butter'

Now it's all fat and sugar and skimmed milk and crap margarine - it's the parents buying the crap and feeding it to the kids - it's not the foods fault!!

Yep. A lot of the people "back in the day" feeding themselves on all those sugary sweets and drinks are now in their middle and old age. And diabetic.

yes this is true but .

We then went out and played football, cricket, tennis and cycling for 12hrs a day .
The kids today don't do this , I think you can eat all those things with a outdoor lifestyle but today's kids spend all day on their phones or in bedrooms on computers.

I can't remember the last time I seen a group of kids just kicking around with " jumpers for goal posts" in the park.
We used to play footy in the street , imagine that now with the amount of traffic.
I feel a bit sorry for the kids now as I had a great childhood.

Very true , in school holidays I would be out from dawn to dusk. You have to prize kids away from the computer and TV nowadays.

It's the sugar intake and lack of exercise combo that is driving up the obesity figures.

there's not too much sugar in our food. the diet coke sits next to the regular coke, its not rocket science. its only a problem if you choose these foods in the first place. I'd say its more down to the bad food being more convenient. nothing worse than seeing a family sat in McDonald's on a Sunday afternoon. cook a family meal for God sake

You are right - McCowans coo candy shrank so much over the years that it eventually disappeared. RIP the penny greens I used to love (chew the soft bit off each end before sticking in yer gob)

good point.

we also would be out all day in the holidays and only came back at Dinner time.

If we weren't playing Cricket/ Tennis or Rugby, we would be on bike rides, climbing trees and building camps.

even at School we had Games every day, i totted up we did 7 hours a week exorcise just in school time, then there was after school sports e few nights a week and weekends.

I would imagine the only schools still doing that sort of amount of exercise would be public schools.
