Ta Phil as you can guess its causing a bit of conversation ,,

Its gona be changed to HOI gets half the pot and rest for 2's at next meeting id say (by mistakes we learn)

The good news is peopl are being flexible enough to realise change might be needed

I honestly don't think it should count in the 2s sweep but as it weirdly does at some clubs you can't announce it or you will end up with no one else entering it. Any why should someone who gets a hole in one in the first group out win a lot less than someone in the last group out.

FL - I think one of the complications here is that the pot is added too over two days. If it was just one it would barely matter as even if the hole in one was from the first group you would still have a good sized pot by the time that group got back to the clubhouse and word started to spread. As it is spread over two days people at the start of the second day are likely to know what happened from the previous day, word trickles down in most clubs.

I've said no but I'll qualify it with an... 'unless the scores from previous rounds are normally available for later starters to see' then there's no problem proactively advising that there's been a hole in one

edit: how much are we talking about to enter a 2's anyway

No, you shouldn't get to know. Fair play for that person winning the prize if those are the rules. Presumably you also have a chance of splitting the prize if you get a hole in one.

It feels a bit like asking, should a player be required to report back to the clubhouse if he's smashing his handicap with 3 holes to go. Maybe no chance of winning that comp (or similar situation to having the chance of matching a hole in one) so in which case do you just play a supplementary card for handicap purposes rather than paying competition entry fees? Personally doesn't feel very sporting.

HIO news spreads very quickly, both around the course and back to the clubhouse at my place as you have to go past the pro shop to play 10. If I was out and in it already then tough. If I hadn't gone out chances are I'd know anyway and wouldn't enter. If it was a weekend pot then the HIO should take that day's pot and leave the other one up for grabs

Exactly Slab.

I don't understand why people are being so tight!

At my club a hole in one just counts as 2 twos. If you get one in a medal the club insurance pays you £75 to go towards the cost of drinks.

For the record i knew of the HIO but i paid in as normal , as did most

Many thanks for the input into both polls , all like minded golfers on here so whether i agree or not i value the thoughts
