Just a quick follow up poll to my other thread of would you pay in to 2's club knowing there was already a hole in 1 that wins the lot

Should you be told there is a HIO ?

Its a bit of a talking point in the club at the min , id like to know ye'r thoughts please

I am tweeting the poll results so club and members can see ,

Ta

Yes you should be informed as it then allows you to make an informed choice

That way you can decide with full info if you want to increase the persons fund

Ta Phil as you can guess its causing a bit of conversation ,,

Its gona be changed to HOI gets half the pot and rest for 2's at next meeting id say (by mistakes we learn)

How does a hole in one win a two's club? Surely the two's should only be split amongst the two's? Maybe I'm being too simplistic, but whilst a hole in one is pretty good/ lucky golf, it isn't a two, so shouldn't clean up the two's comp...... in my opinion.

I would be happy enough for the hole in one guy to get 'that days' pot. No need to scoop Sundays pot and put people off from entering if they hear about it.

Depends on the rules of the club's 2-club comp - varies from club to club.

One of my local clubs has a 2-club - and you can also enter a separate HIO club - £1 a go and the pot rolls over week to week until someone wins the lot (unless 2 HIOs in same comp). Guy I was playing with couple of years back won over £500 for his HIO two weeks previously. A week later another HIO was achieved and the guy got £60 :)

That seems the best answer. You would still probably pay into the 2's at that point as you have a chance of getting something. A club that listens and learns, well done them.

What happens if someone in the first group out get a HIO? Word will filter back to the club pretty quickly. Would anyone signing in to play at, say, 11:30 pay to enter the two's? Is it fair to let them pay in knowing they won't get anything back?

Sound like the 2's comp needs to revise its rules.

I said no - I would not want to be informed.

If the rules of the day were that HIO claims the whole 2's pot then thats fair enough - he is entitled to it. I wouldn't feel cheated knowing that he had already finished before I entered the 2's pot. In fact, he might have been paying into the 2's pot for years and never had a win so would hope he got the full pot from those who would normally enter.

At the 2 clubs I've been a member of the hole in one doesn't get the whole pot so doesn't affect anything.
In fact, at my old club a guy got a HIO and didn't get anything for it, as it wasn't a 2.
I think it's just treated as a solitary 2 at the new club.

Holes in one come out a seperate lot at our place. The cat 1 guys only play for 2's at a specified hole each medal. So even if you hole out from 200 yards on a par 5 for a 2 you don't get anything as it's not at the specific hole.

I've said no but I'll qualify it with an... 'unless the scores from previous rounds are normally available for later starters to see' then there's no problem proactively advising that there's been a hole in one

edit: how much are we talking about to enter a 2's anyway

Been a member at three clubs over the last thirty years or so and none of them operated like this for the "two's sweep"

Two's sweep is just that, for twos ;)

At our place the entrance fee is automatically divided by the 2's, eclectic and medal prize money, so you're in it whatever. Stops the scenario you are describing from ever happening. Not sure I know what happens with HIO though. As it isn't a 2 though, I would imagine it wouldn't count!
