Up north we had sub zero conditions today. I suspect the rest of the British Isles were similar. Now I do not need a fix enough to go out in conditions like that and nor do I think anyone else does. Surely it cannot do the course any good to be open when it's minus 4-5 degrees. I think courses should really close, do you agree?

No.

No.

We played today, and it was minus 5. Can't see it damaging the course, it was like a rock.

Grass is a weed, it will recover very quickly.

Depends on why you are closing it. Last time we closed it was because it froze overnight we then had a shower and that froze too, made everywhere like an ice rink.

Apart that, and fog, and snow we will usually be open.

It never got much above freezing today and the greens never thawed but it was such a stunning day and the course looked beautiful - a winter wonderland. It was a bit of a lottery as the bounce was at best unpredictable and putting tricky as the ball gathered frost en route to the hole. I doubt much if any damage was done to the course as it was solid so even ice on spikes unlikely to make a dent in the ground.

Here's an ask the experts ? in the wrong place but...I had a drop as relief from a scraping and my ball skidded into a perfect fitting ball-shaped hole! Had to play it but the mud was rock solid and I guess 2/3 of the ball above the perfectly fitting hole! Hadn't a clue how to play it (was about 6' from the pin and just off the fringe). Smacked it with an 8 iron and moved it from the hole about 2" but then got up and down from there...

So, any ideas what else I could have done with the shot?? I hadn't a clue really.

Ours was frozen solid and temps all the way, but thoroughly enjoyed it and no obvious way it was harming the course. Managed 37 points... wish I could putt as well on proper greens

It was beautiful to be out in the frost... would hate to have missed it.

Minus 5 and foggy at 9am when we started. You have to be able to see the red and white marker 250 yards away due to health and safety rules but we all agreed that even though we couldn't see it we knew where it was so that was good enough.

Do you not have someone stopping you from playing when you can't see where your hitting to?

Our place would never let people tee off if your likely to injure someone.

Played at 12 today and a few of the greens where still pure white with frost so temporary greens where in play for the first time this winter and they where shocking. We decided to have a game of skins and it ended up being one of the best and most fun rounds we have ever had and after two extra holes as we where both tied I won with a par 4 birdie.

If the course had of been closed the round would never of happend so NO I dont think the course should be closed.

Teed off at 11 just as the frost had gone. Mustn't have been quite so cold here as ground was OK, a little firm in some places but certainly not frozen.

Glad it was open as I played some great stuff, going round in gross 75 (par 72) :)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Glorious sunshine here in the shire too and it was a pleasure to be out there. That's what I pay my money for, so no, I don't think the course should've been closed.

Would winter rules not allow you to mark your ball "clean it" and replace within 6 inches?

We had some guys banned for playing in the fog before Christmas

It was beautiful out today, full sun, no wind, thermals did the job.:) Temporary greens but couldn't care less. Played in the roll up 34 points over 15 holes. 3 are closed as there is no room in the heather to put a temp. Took a fiver of the Captain as well which is always nice. Winning score 39 points:eek:. Back in time to see the boys beat Watford and go back to 5th. Days in January do not come any better.:whoo:

As best as I could tell it was in the 2nd cut of "fringe" so not fairway cut. Probably pay back from the golfing gods for kicking back off a tree on the previous hole rather than hitting the lake !!
