Should I wait for the FJ DNA?

During the weekend, trusty Adidas started take in more water than the titanic.. So now time to have an (unscheduled) hunt for a pair of shoes..

I have been eyeing FJs for a while as I like the brand. However, the Nike Lunars seem a very sensible choice at a decent price. I am sure I can find Lunars 2s around the £60-70 mark. I am not keen on unspiked golf shoes - hence did not apply for the Ecco shoes opportunities either.

The FJ DNA looks interesting, but at about £130 is way out of budget. I tried entering a few online comp to win it, but havent managed yet. I am sure it retail at sub-100 in a couple of months. Question is...

1) Is the DNA that great a product (any experience yet)
2) bite the bullet or wait for the market to chew it first (Remember the Adizero was the next best thing and now greenkeepers wont let you in)

Thing I would say about the DNA's are to try them on and if poss, attend a FJ fitting.

I was at St. Ives years ago and was fitted for shoes, 11 Narrow. Ive had loads of shoes over the years, 3/4 pairs of ICONs all 11n and they were perfect. Ordered some DNA's from the US when they hit the shops, 12n (11n UK) and they killed my feet. they were tight across the top and sides. ordered a pair of 12m (again from the US) which are now OK, but I have to have the laces pulled up really tight and they feel a little lose.

They are really comfortable, just not a clue what is going on with the sizing. Ive never had any problems buying shoes from the US before.

vkurup, I've just received a pair and paid a lot less than £130. I've pmed you the details.

Thanks mate.. realised they do only 1 colour white/white.

Also wasnt there a £20 voucher for Direct Golf in this months' mag.. will bring it down a few bobs too.

I really like the look of the DNA's but I bought a pair of Lunar 2's and they are the comfiest shoes i've ever worn

Are they really because I'm currently torn between a pair of lunars and some puma faas on golfbase for half the price

I just keep hearing how comfortable the nikes are

I think the voucher was for foremost golf, or was that last month??

white/white is actually white and grey. I've no idea why it's not labelled as that.

I have both...the DNA's are great, however, I am constantly having to replace spikes as they are falling out. I don't think it is an issue with the shoes, but the system the spikes use to 'grab' to the sole. My Adizeros have the same issue as well. The Lunars however...superb.

Love my new DNA's, I posted in the review section about them earlier this week. Just played another round and no blisters, just like slippers. Grip and fit is superb. Bought them from Direct Golf.

My DNA's have given me a lots of blisters - the sizing appears all wrong

I normally a 9 1/2 in most shoes with a wide fit - sometimes a 10

But the FJ DNA's was a clear size smaller in a wide but even then they don't feel "tight"

Looks wise they are great and underfoot they are very comfy but toes they are awful at the moment

is that a defect in the design?

I thnk it is the system they use. They use the PINS system, so after some twisting, the spikes fall out! I must've replaced 4 or 5 since having them. My Adizeros have the same issue though...so it's just just a DNA issue!

If spikes keep falling out then I'd be speaking to FJ. I read elsewhere that it was a problem with the initial batch but had been rectified. You would think that the shoes sold in the UK would be fine.

Looked up the DNA review on the XXXLong hitters forum aka WRX..

Cons: The edges of the spikes near the toe might be undesirably eye-catching in your periphery

Is that correct? can you see the spikes when you look down?

In short...yes you can!

I've already sent one of my pairs back to FJ, but I was in the group that was present at Woburn for the 'launch' of the shoe with GM, so had a 'prototype' pair

My review is based on my experience with my feet lol. My adidas were comfortable when I "broke them in", the DNA's fitted immediately no blisters. I think this was more luck than judgement but I would hope for a happy purchase at £130.

when I bought new running shoes recently I went for a proper fitting, again this worked out really well. I thought I would end up with the most expensive but a £60 pair of Asics worked a treat.

IMHO I would go for a fitting with the next pair I buy and not leave it to chance. I had not noticed the front spike until mentioned above, but they don't interfere with my eye line.
