Should I just rap it?

I've had the same problem, despite playing decently (two cuts in the 2 medals i've played this year) i have putted terribly. 3 putts from inside 10 ft is not a rare occurance !! In a bounce game I recently adopted a little forward press a la Mickleson and that seems to have the ball running a little better for me. I also have done the old, count for 1 second after hitting the putt , just so i dont take a sneaky peak too soon. Seems to have done the trick, although i appreciate its different with a medal card in had !!

Dont let it get you down Craw, it could be worse....at least your hitting it sweet, imagine if you were spraying it all over and putting like a tool :) :)

I have to admit with our upcoming foursomes match on Friday this is not what i was looking to hear. With my driving and your putting it could be a long walk back from the 10th :D

Although i didnt see you on Saturday everytime i have played with you i have always thought that on putts from 10 ft and in you were really solid and most times you would sink them and if you missed you would hit the lip.

As you have said yourself it is in the head the stroke is there so just keep doing the same and they will start to drop.

Doubt it needs a change of putter unless you feel it could alter the way you are thinking on the greens.

Yes imagine!! That would be terrible.. :o :o

Keep it up Craw you're too good a man to give up!

Don't give up pal, not because of poor putting anyway.

You sound exactly the same as I was a last season. My putting was so bad that if I was on the green I was seriously considering offering someone money to putt for me!!!

I use a belly putter which I know isn't to everyone's taste but they are very good for boosting the confidence. Once your confidence is back then you can revert to one of your other putters.

Don't give up Geezer - your putting touch will return with a vengeance... :D

Craw,
Chin up mate.
Putting is the one part of my game im actually half decent at....
I dont get to go to practice at the club much so before my round ill work on my distance control on lag putts from all distances it seems to helf on the short ones....I dont know why but it just works for me....When im at home ill hit putts from 6-10ft at the open end of an empty golf ball box....It really help to focus in on a small area because if the ball isnt hit exactly right then its easy to miss.....
Also from 3 ft ill hit it a good belt so that when it gets into the box it might move it 6-12" back....Its a good drill i find for taking out the break on short putts....

Oh one other thing that helps me which i read in a putting article in some magazine a month or 2 ago(cant remember which one) but he takes a deep breath just before he address's the ball with the face of the putter and expels it just before he makes the stroke....

Its great for releasing tension...The whole body relaxes...
Im even doing it now on all my shots and im much more relaxed hitting them....

Dont give up Pal....You'd regret it! ;)

What is the point in continuing when you know that no matter what your game wont improve and you simply cant overcome your achillies heel?

Thoughts?

Ummm.

Ummm.

I quit for years on a mental downer over a specific issue.

If you love playing and things are this bad, take some time out, go back to the drawing board completely with the Achilles heel and give it another go with a fresh attitude.

I can't see how you can do worse than 42 putts (well, 54 might be a target!?) - maybe you should buy a left-handed putter or something and start all over.

Craw,

" HE " being Graeme McDowell ....Sorry i was thinking too fast for my hands to keep up :D ;)

Can't you just play with people who are quite generous with their "gimmes" for a bit?
That's what I'd do.
Sod the practice.

Do not listen to this knob.
He knows not of what he speaks of.
A loss of confidence is not something that can be cured easily, but it can be done.
Just remember... even the best golfers in the world miss putts shorter than you. And no-one gets hurt
:D

I know you don't give decent gimmes Bob, so I didn't mention you.

Only coz I've seen you putt :D

I can't be any worse than what Crawford's going through at the moment

As said before take the pressure off yourself, it's only a game. Yes we all want to be as good as we can but really how good is that if it's beating us up to do it! Practice the putting as said, take a break for a few weeks and play a few rounds without a card for the fun of it. At the end of the day golf is not our job golf is our pastime.

Ps if you do burn them can I have the driver first!

You could always try the old trick of putting looking at the hole, not the ball. Worked for Justin Rose recently. If you don't see your stroke, you don't tend to quit on it.

Some interesting replies on this. Your all right I will never chuck the game however my mental approach has just imploaded on me and I can't get over that at present. Its not the yips that I'm also confident of, its my stupid brain taking over and defeating me before I even set up.

Anxious golf is bad golf.

My round of 42 putts from 15 greens in regulation was my fault, plain and simple. I would concentrate so much on the stroke I'd leave it 10 feet short at times. I'd then say to myself on the next hole get it past the bloddy hole only to rush it 5 feet past. I'd then approach the next/return putt with the thoughts going through my head "thats another three jab you big bloomin tit", low and behold it was a three jab jobby.

My new inspiration

I hope to pick up a broom today, new stick, new attitude, new technique, new fun, new inspiration.

Maybe I should have stuck with the broom. I used one for years and I did feel more comfortable on the ten foot and under putts.

Bring it on.
