Shot/s of the year

Hitting my left-hand 8 iron, right handed from under a tree, over a bunker to about 18" from 50 yards...didn't think it would work but it did. Have been practicing it on the range now and I'm getting quite accurate :-)

I'm not actually sure I've hit a good shot this year - if it comes to me I'll get back to you!

I've hit any number of shots this year that I could tell you about but the one that sticks in my mind is the wedge I hit into the 18th back at the start of the year when playing a friendly betterball against Homer and our Pro Ali.

We were 1 down playing the last, Homer and Ali were both on the green with birdie putts, Sundance who I was partnering was off the green to the left and I needed a birdie to stand a chance of halving the match. It didn't mean anything apart from the fact I don't like losing and I had Ali behind me asking Homer if I had the balls to make the shot.

I hit a beautiful gap wedge over the pond pin high about 10 feet and rolled the putt in to halve the match.

Not the most important shot I've hit this year but there was personal pride at stake and somehow playing alongside Ali made me that little bit more nervous. Pulling that shot off gave me the confidence to know I could trust my swing when I was feeling a bit of nerves and was the springboard for my whole season.

A wedge from out of trees last Sunday.
My third shot to a par 5 had missed the green, kicked right and landed smack bang in a dried up water hazard ditch. I couldn't play it as the bank was too steep, so had to take a drop in some trees on the other side as this was the nearest point of relief. Had a horrible lie on some really baked hard old clay with bushes all around me. Took my pitching wedge and knocked it through the branches, it kicked up onto the green and tracked towards the hole. Half a roll more and it would have dropped for a par. I was happy to escape with a 6 because from that lie I had, it was never really on the cards.

My best shot was probably my second on the par five (7th i think) on the jubilee at st andrews. hit a big drive to about 260 then launched a 3 wood to the green (big intentional hook with the fairway and rolled it up the front). Had a 4 iron from 215 on a par 3 to 6 feet (birdie) but nothing else stands out :( no chip ins either
