Shot/s of the year

What would you say has been your shot or shots of the year?

I would say mine was during a bronze league greensomes match on the 18th 174 yd par 3 of my home club. I hit my tee shot using my hybrid, I pulled it slightly and it went straight for the pond on the left hand side of the green (my partner had put her ball in the rough just in front of the tee and opposition were on the green). We all saw the big splash from the middle of the pond as my ball went in and then suddenly it bounced back out and rolled onto the green.
We could not believe it.
We double checked it was my ball when we got to the green and is pleased to say it was.
We went on to halve our match by parring the hole.

There have been other shots but this one really does spring to mind.

It would be good to hear other shots of the year stories

would have to be a chip in birdie at our 6th.... to say I was cock a hoop would be an understatement, just off the green with a slight mound I played a pw and it never went off line all the way

Chip in birdie on our very tricky 17th in the slap, a 3 for 5 pts.

I used to get two shots on the hole.

Driver, 7w then cheeky little chip in from the apron.

Had one of mine today, in horrid conditions I missed our 17th green 30 yards short and left (horrid shot). Got up there to find the ball next to a silver birch and no way to get at it with a normal swing. Ended up flipping an 8 iron end on end and using it left handed. After 7 or 8 practise swings it felt semi normal and managed to pitch it to 25ft or so and knocked it in for the most improbable par!

Approach shot from 220 yard on our 4th hole a dog leg par 5. Put it within 10 foot then missed an eagle putt by 6 inches. Tapped in for a birdie and had birdied the previous hole as well.

Not sure I've had one. Hit some great shots and put the odd score together but can't really think of one stand out shot.

In my Greensomes semi final, we just got back to two down, standing on 14 tee, par 3 172 to pin, wind behind, hit 9 iron to a foot, was so pure, went on to win the hole, and the match.

I have a feeling I know what PN Wokingham's is going to be. I haven't mine yet. It will be my tee shot at the fist hole on the Old Course at St Andrews in two weeks time. Assuming I actually hit the ball, and don't knock it out of bounds.

It may have not been shot of the year for me,however it put a big smile on my face.
I was playing in our pro am,and on our 2nd hole,a dogleg right a par 4 of about 250yrds.
You can either lay up or hit it over or around some massive trees and maybe green it.
I hit a great shot with my 3 wood and the pro hit a great shot with his driver.
As we walked around the bend towards the green he commented on what a great
shot he had hit as a ball was 12ft or so from the pin.
As we got towards the ball i noticed it had my markings on it.
As we searched for his ball we found it under the fir trees 50 yrds short of the green.
Priceless face was being pulled,however he did say good shot.
Yes i did miss the eagle

65 yard bump and run from knee high rough to save par on a tricky par 4. 3 shot had left me in the thick stuff and my shot choice was to try and get out and get close to the green. Hit out and landed where I wanted but took off down the fairway slope and onto the green with big left to right break then in the hole. Kept the ball as a trophy ball for my first ever chip in from distance.

Mine was playing with Anthony (TXL) at the Berkshire in a 4somes. We were going great guns after an eagle and a few birdies. We both drove off and I pulled mine into the clag. TXL pushed his into the right hand rough. It was the 1st time that neither of us had managed to hit the fairway.

Found his ball and was sitting up in the rough with some low hanging branches in front with the green about 185 yds away uphill and to a blind pin with a bunker guarding the front. Should have just put it back into play, but for some reason I just fancied it.
Hit a piercing 5 iron which started low, then soared towards the green with a touch of fade. I knew I had hit it well and did a Sergio and ran out from the trees to see where it ended. It was tracking the flag and I thought it was going to run out of steam and land in the bunker, but it just cleared it. When we got to the green, it was sitting about 6 feet from the pin. TXL duly sank the birdie and we went on to win by 1 point.
That's how I remember it anyway, no doubt TXL will be on to describe what really happened!!

Undoubtedly my 3rd shot on the par 4 18th at Bowood during a Pro-Am back in July. Hit a stonking drive but pulled my appoach and missed the green to the left. Pin was on the opposite side of the green at the bottom of a down slope so I was in the worst place to be. I'd been in the same place the day before and fluffed two attempts so with the gallery watching I was determined not to do the same. Hit it perfectly and landed the ball exactly where I'd hoped. Because the green was above me I had to run up to see the result. Ball rolled beautifully and finished about 3 inches below the hole having missed the cup my a fraction, so I had a nice tap-in par to finish. The applause that followed the pitch shot and the comments from the guys I was playing with gave me such a buzz. My shot of the year, and probably my favourite golfing moment to date!

Was in the club foursomes quarter final.
3 down through 9 holes. My playing partner hit driver to the right of a double line of trees and just off the 9th fairway. Was left with no shot at all to the green.
Our opponents had hit driver straight down the middle.
I told my playing partner i was going to try an punch a 7 iron through a 10 foot gap in the trees and roll it up on the green if lucky. He walked away shaking his head muttering about how it was a miracle shot with no chance.
I lined up and then almost watched in slow motion as the ball flew low through the gap drawing slightly towards the pin coming to rest 2 foot from the hole.
Our opponents missed the green and we won the hole to start the comeback.
Don't think I'll ever hit a better shot. I firmly believe it was better than my only hole in one.

Has to be my magic chop out during our works golf day.
On a reachable but very well guarded Par4 after a pretty terrible start and the irons not working well at all. Pulled the driver out the bag and gave the ball a full slap that drew perfectly around the trees guarding the entrance and bull’s-eyes the green only for the ball to get a bad bounce and take a huge hop off the back into thigh high rough.
We get up there and spend a few minutes trying to find it, just as I’d given up hope it was found buried deep. It was nearly unplayable, a real wrist breaker with the rough being so thick and wet. Wasn’t in the mood to go back to the tee so took a wedge out the bag and threw myself at it. It popped out perfect landing on the green as soft as a fluffy kitten about 2 feet from the hole. Tapped in for a birdie.
This was all infront of our MD. Ended up playing well after that hole and came a very close second and winning the long drive 2 holes later.

Hit a rescue club last weekend from 212 yards on our 1st hole to 4 feet and holed the birdie putt, in twenty years I have never before birdied this hole when using a putter (have wedged in 3 times tho'), now have the full set of putted birdies so a good end to the season.

Not a great shot but a memorable one was on the par 3 17th at Wentworth Edinburgh course. Playing over water, I thinned it straight at the water and it skipped off the middle of the pond, hit the bank and went in the front bunker. Chipped out and made par.

a thinned sand wedge 100yds that went straight in the hole on the fly, what a noise it made, would have been OB otherwise, so from thinking I was going to go +2 after 2 holes I was -2

I drove my first green and putt for eagle on a 340 yds hole. To be fair it happens to someone almost every week at our club but for me it was a big achievement.
