Shortening my driver shaft?

There seems to be too much talk on this thread about 'circumcising' a shaft and incorporating butt 'plugs'. It's starting to make my eyes water !!!

Very true DD, golf is a game full of inyourendo, err, I mean innuendo.

All this chat of a shorter shaft assisting with middling your balls has me, frankly, giddy.

Reminds me of a joke...

My wife asked for a double-entendre...

So I gave her one.

I went down this route before. In my case, I didn't find much improvement by way of control, and did lose some distance. That said, I wouldn't rule out trying it again.

As hackneyed as it is though, I just found there were some flaws in my technique I needed to improve. A bad swing with a 43" driver is still going to end up in more or less the same trouble as a bad swing with a 45" one. Where you really require more control, a 3 wood will give more forgiveness. With a short driver, you might be falling between two stools.

Read a piece in Tom Wishons` book "The search for the Perfect Golf Club" to this effect. He recommends using a shorter shaft in the driver to improve accuracy. He also says that you will not lose much distance if any.
Apparently "TIGER" has his drivers shortened to 43" to help improve his accuracy. Wishon also mentions that no need to worry about effects on swing weight etc.

OK, I'll keep it brief.

Chop a bit off, and you might get on better with it. I had 3/4" taken off my G5 to make it 45" like all my others, and I didn't notice a thing. I felt I hit it a bit better.

More than an inch is dodgy. I read up on the subject AND spoke to two pros about all this.
APPARENTLY
1 inch = 6 swingweight points. 6 is liveable (probably) but 12 would be madness.
Tom Wishon believes that the loss of distance vs. consistency is a good deal. My local pro has a 43.5" driver designed by Wishon with a custom designed head to fix the swingweight. He rates it.....but then again, he's off the equivalent of +2 (?) i.i.r.c.

A little, go for it! more than that and it could be risky.

I have a new club from the said pro (43" and 12 degree) which I'm hoping to test ASAP, but I've had a bad arm last few days.
If it goes well, I'll either keep it as a driver or as a 460cc 3 wood.

I PROMISE TO GET MY REVIEW UP SOON. :)
