Hi all,
I have been trolling ebay for the last week after an experience I had at a Callaway event. As some of you will know I was lucky enough to spend some time on trackman with the new Callaway range, I had a bolt of light moment when we finally found a shaft that worked both on the numbers and in the ball flight. The shaft and head would have ended up costing something like £400+ and I was never going to spend that but I hungered for that ball flight so much that I tried to find the nearest thing to that as I could. I have read every shaft review and received lots of help from forum buddies to try and recreate what I was looking for.
I have ended up with a Titliest 909 D2 with a Tour AD YSQ Graphite Design - S Flex – 65(it’s actually 67 grams though). I got it for a song and actually went and met the seller to pick it up, he was not happy to be getting the £77 that I gave him.
I drove home asap, grabbed a glove and some shoes and hit the range, grabbed some balls, hit two 7 irons and pegged up a ball to drive. There is was… that beautiful ball flight I had dreamed about. I may have even stood there with my mouth open, the ball left the club so damn fast and was gone into the darkness. I obviously have no idea about the numbers but it looked very samey to the week before. I guess I will know more on the course. I would have to call it a special moment, I know that is sad but it was.
Anyhow a quick word about the club head before the post gets too long. I came from an 11* driver and to go down to a 9.5* is a big jump but it was by design. I was lead to believe that loft gives any club forgiveness but in the case of the 909 with 9.5* all I actually had to be careful of was to make sure the club head is square or open a small amount at address. It is so easy to work the ball with this club almost to a fault, it is not none forgiving, I hit balls all over the toe but it is extremely responsive.
Great fun…..
