Did you ever have them? And whats the cure?

Iv had them now for i think the last 6 rounds and is really bugging the "*@# out of me.....

It got so bad this morning that i had one with the driver and one with the 3 wood too... <:<

I know that people are trying to make me feel better by telling me that they are the closest thing to hitting the ball perfect but im not down with this.....

They really arnt the closes thing to the perfect shot, trust me, a thin is a helluva lot prettier too. With plenty of experience in this field myself I can only say get to a pro asap as I didnt and it took months to wring it out of my system.

Shankaholic!

At least talking about the shanks is a positive step. All you need to do now is stand up on the forum and type I'm kid2 and I'm a shankaholic!

Its easy, get these shanks off your chest mate!

Brendy,
They are driving me bananas pal....
I went to the range last week 3 times and out of at leat 250 balls i only hit 3 sockets.....And they were at the start of one of the sessions.....
From what iv read they can be heavily caused by attacking the ball from too far inside......
I did have a bad habit of taking the club away to much inside the line and have since been taking it back on a much straighter line until i get to about waist high...Then my natural motion just takes over.

I found a quick cure was to grip down the shaft a little, maybe 1/2 to an inch.

I think what makes it so hard for me to sort is that it only pops up a few times in the round and im hitting the ball properly either side of it happening.....

When I was having them it was easily half a dozen times a round with the wedge. it got so bad I was either laying up well back to hit a full shot or pushing for 100% with the driver to get within chipping distance on the shorter par 4s.

Funnily enough im getting them with any club......Take for instance our 17th par 3 this morning....Playing off the yellows and with a wing helping it was playing about 150 mtrs.....I pulled a 7 iron and shanked it.....Stepped up again after everyone had hit and with the same club and what felt like the same swing put my provisional in the centr of the green.... :(

If you are refering to a shank, you are not alone, I had the shanks and could shank everything from driver to putter. If you are a shanker be not afraid, there are more with the shanks than you might think. Be a man say the word, then get off to your Pro for absolution, doubtless he as mine did will sort you out in about 5 minutes, you then will be shankless (or at least know why you are a shanker) and will not be afraid of the word SHANK

Happy new year.

I tend to get them a lot in range sessions with the first few balls I hit when everything isn't fully loosened up and out of synch. In my case it usually comes down to a shift of weight forward onto the toes which means everything else moves forward a few inches and instead of the sweetspot I present the hosel to the ball. Once I get relaxed and keep the weight balanced they go away. Nothing worse than standing in a packed range and rattling one off the side. Nowhere to hide. On the course you can look sheepish and just reload without dozens of eyes all stopping and looking at you

Snap!

I also have been known to dabble with this mysterious dark art if I forget to keep the back of my left hand facing the target at impact.

I had them before I went to the Titleist day, and was dreading hitting one when I was being filmed :D

Then when I got the irons, I went on to put a nice shank mark on my 6-Iron

Only really ever had 1 dose - back in '97!!

Funnily enough the only real time I've done it since is on our par 3 course - had a few Barclays Banks on there for no apparent reason - maybe just not concentrating enough...

I have had a few in my time, and usually when I get the club too much on the inside. Had a lesson years ago and shanked everything into a nearby garden. Pro then just made me take the club back, what felt way outside the line, but was in fact on the correct path.
