Ok, so im thinking of getting a new set of irons but am unsure what ones to get.
I went to a local club today and tried a few different irons and am still unsure on what ones i prefer.
So far ive tried the Titleist AP2's, Mizuno MP59's and Taylormade MC's. All of these went lower and not as far as my current antique Taylormade RAC mb's which have rifle 6.0 shafts.
What i would like to know is there anywhere i could go and get fitted for shafts only and then try the different heads with the shaft suited to me?

Thanks

Different heads will work better with certain shafts rather than others so I'm going to say probably not.
The head design/cavity/sole width etc etc makes a difference to launch characteristics - not as much as the shaft does but some.
I don't think you can really say that shaft A works better than shaft B - in a different head it may be the other way round.

Ok thanks. So im best to decide what irons i like and then get fitted for those ones?
Just unsure on what irons to go for. Mine are not far off being blades and i seem to hit these better than the ones mentioned above. Id keep them but ive had them so long and they are showing signs of wear now.

I don't know your neck of the woods. But are there any fitting centres, that have plenty of choice. Homer is from your area so maybe he will know somewhere. When he comes online?

There are various fitting centres not too far that i could go to, but as i am unsure on the irons i didnt really want a specific fitting centre. Think that will be the only option though.

The old Rifle is a nice shaft, but you can't get them anymore. The RAC MB is also a great iron.

A 6.0 Rifle equates roughly to a PX 5.5 or a TT DG S300. The TT DG S300 XP might be worth a look, or the KBS Tour Stiff.

As said above, the shaft works with the head, so getting the match right is important and a given shaft can behave a bit differently in different heads.

Where did you go to try them out? Depending on what you are looking for, Sand Martins is a TM, Mizzy and I think Titleist fitter and would be a good place to start. If you want to just try some more standard shafts go to Downshire and try a few demo models there

Thanks. I went to Windlesham. They had quite a few models.
Sandmartins could definatly be worth a try by the sounds of it then. How do you find the R11's Homer? Havent tried these yet but they look great.

One other thing to consider is shaft weight. I wanted to hit it higher and get quicker stop, even if I was 10 yards shorter, I told the pro.

He fitted me with lighter shafts and I went with TM R9's, I didn't lose any distance in the end, so a happy bunny all round.
