S'ford vs Medal

I do see medals as proper golf!

If I got a HC cut off a stableford score with a big blob it would feel like cheating!

It is more satisfying winning or getting a cut in a medal comp!

In my opinion!!!!

You would get the same cut in a medal if you shoot a low score over 17 holes and a 10 on the 18th!

Not arguing with you and nothing better than putting together eighteen solid holes rather than fifteen or sixteen and two blobs. However I like the freedom of stableford where one hole isn't a round breaker which for a lot of players is part of their enjoyment. To be fair if you come in with 39-40 points at my place and don't win the division there's usually a stewards enquiry

Your HC is based of stableford score irrelevant of what competition you play.

"Real golf" is scratch golf without the HC yet you can win a medal without having the best score on the day

Ok, but It still feels wrong just picking up when you've hit a couple of bad shots on a hole and being able to carry on and put a score in!

Medals help me concentrate on every shot!

But you still put your card in with a 10 on it, which is the equivalent of a blob but it just gets knocked down to a nett double bogey, so you still get cut if the rest of your round was ok. There's no real difference, just that one is over slightly quicker and the other one means you'll be out of the prizes, possibly, but you can still get cuT!

I have never played a stableford HC qualifier so i couldn't get cut!!!!!

I have only ever had a double figures hole once (3 oob off the tee) And was proud I finished it off, and didn't hold anyone up!

only one of my cuts involved a 'stableford' adjusted score as far as i am aware!

Not sure of the relevance, it just my opinion!

Every single cut you have had is based on your stableford score not your medal score.

I play all medals like a stableford. Takes away any medal pressure, and can still get cut with a bad hole or two.

Second time in a couple of weeks I am agreeing with Fish.

Exactly! Your handicap is based on your Stableford score, where you cannot be scored worse than a nett double bogey. We seem to get more completed cards handed in and fewer N/R's in Stablefords than in medals. Also less time wasted when players lose a ball and go back to play another, so that they get a medal score.

You can't NR in a stableford

Sure, your handicap is held off stableford, but the prize money should be medal. Ok, scratch golf would be proper, but golf is all inclusive, so it's handicapped. Stableford is a hackers charter.

As an aside, in terms of pace of play, I've had a long held belief that cat one and two should play medal, and cats three, four and five (gulp) should only ever play stableford. Comps should be split into two divisions (they often are any way).
