Serious vandalism at Hiollinwell!!

A little bit extreme methinks for an act of vandalism which in a relatively short time will be almost forgotten about - nature being a great healer. The eejits who did this are just that - not really bad or nasty folks, just bored idiots with little respect for the property or feelings of others - and not really caring or appreciating that to some of us this sort of thing is upsetting.

And in my opinion it's exactly this kind of view that's wrong with society now, too soft and too forgiving when at the end of the day the idiots should have the full weight of the law brought down upon them, no different to that if they'd gone into someone's home and trashed it! It's trespass, it's criminal damage, it's premeditated and I expect the costs could be considerable.

Giving soft Leftie cuddly sentences to these idiots offers no deterrent to them to know it was wrong and not to go on to other criminal activities later in life, prison or a long suspended sentence along with a couple of hundred hours community service is a start.

I haven't made any statement about what penalty they should suffer if caught and I have not suggested in any way that they should not fully be held to account for their actions. They know it's wrong - but that doesn't make them inherently bad - just irresponsible and stupid. And it really isn't the same as going into someone's house an trashing it.

If they catch then then fair enough community service, get them making society a bit better for us all. But prison for at the end of the day churning up some turf? Can't help thinking they will learn all sorts of nasty things in prison and come out a lot more equipped to do some serious damage and pursue a life of crime than they would if they did a decent amount of community service.

Yours a yurt eating yogurt dweller.

How much worse is this sort of reckless action more than those who let their dogs dump on a footy/rugby pitch? That goes on much more .

Awful. Heard about some vandalism but didn't realise it was hollinwell. Seen this on social media before here and the comments are full of people from the lovely city of nottingham (like myself) making excuses saying 'well they should create somewhere for kids to ride their bikes then' talk about fighting a loosing battle. Wouldn't suprise me if this happens to other courses in our city now as it's recieved a lot of publicity. Even the local rags have printed it. Fingers crossed I'm wrong

Awful.

The newly revived British mid amateur has just been moved there, I hope the damage doesn't impact that too

Would have thought that it would all be repaired by then.

Not a pretty site but all too common, last time I played hollinwell we was on the 10th and there was quite a few lads on trail bikes up by the side of the woods

All it takes is for one member to have had a fall out with one and then all hell breaks lose and they come back for revenge.

The thing is there are trial paths all over that part of the world, enough for walkers, dogs, horses the lot. So there was no need to be there doing that.
The golfing fraternity is narked at what has happened. The off road bikers who are fighting to be able to ride on paths will be equally narked. So who wins out of this.
Catch whoever has done, this castrate them ( that was a joke bit) or send them down or fine them. Bottom line is said scrotes pal or brother will do the same in support of his homies conviction. It's a vicious circle. Inclined to agree with the ignore it angle.
I have a feeling a few feelers will be put out to find out who it is behind doors.

I reckon it was an ex member on a souped up mobility scooter taking his revenge for the committee DQing him in a board comp when he had the winning score.

Played it twice and the course is surrounded by woodland crisscrossed with paths. I don't understand why they would feel the need to ruin the golf course. I hope they catch the perpetrator(s) and deal with them adequately.

That is one heck of a comparison.
One could bring up all kinds of examples of selfish behaviour, society is full of them (see irritations of the day thread in Out of bounds)
No need to try to hijack this golfing thread.

I kind of think that was the point of the post. There is lots of selfish behaviour in society and the post was asking if this behaviour, which according to some should be punishable by going to prison, is much worse than knowingly letting dogs dedicate where kids will be playing sport. As if you are a parent of a child that lands in it you may well feel that 'crime' is worse than churning up a fairway on a golf course. Not that wild a comparison in my book.

Terrible to see on a green, but so easy to do sadly these days with out a thought or care of the consiquences of taking so much pleasure from a few

Forgive me if I'm wrong - we have no idea who done it or there reasons ... yet

As but not a direct result alot of clubs will end up fencing in courses as this happening more often these days

Terrible

Lets hope its a one off

Unreal, terrible.

The club/members must be naffed off to say the least.

Exactly my point sir:)

Stick nails in their tyres and have them run over with their own bikes.

Either that or a set of stocks in the practice ground at about 120 yards occupied by said perps.

Sorry I thought we were talking about alternatives to the infraction system :)

Just been reported on East Midlands today, the pictures do not tell half the story. It looks a right mess.
Hollinwell said the police have not been to the course yet to see what's what.
The police have said they take this sort of thing serious but special policing is required to combat this and due to financial cutbacks they are struggling.

Well the Notts police have their annual golf day there so that may come in handy.
