I'm teeing off in 29 hours and 11 minutes.

I went to the range last night and, for me, was hitting the ball well, especially with the driver.

Problem is I have developed a blister on my right thumb where it touches the grip - I'm right handed.

Any suggestions for tomorrow, no plaster the skin is going to rip, wear a plaster and my grip will be compromised.

How do you cope with such a nasty golfing injury? :D

Go to Boots and buy some Compeed. It's like a second skin that you place over the blister and the blister heals naturally underneath it.

I used to kayak a lot and used to get blisters on the inside of my thumb - compeed works wonders.

Cut the thumb finger off an old glove and tape that on with a compeed under it. Hit some balls at the range first to get use to it and your sorted.

Bloke at my club did this after he almost cut his finger off cutting his garden hedge.

Id say leave it be and only during the round put a plaster on (it gets all damp and squishy when covered for long periods. You could also try pointing your thumb slightly to one sideso its not actually touching the same part of thumb and grip gently.

Okay, initial panic is now over, a solution to the problem has been found.

Now consider what has gone wrong in your groip for this to happen. A blister is formed by friction, what is moving and why ? What has caused a blisted whilst you are gripping the club ?

I would leave it be and carry a number of plasters round and cover it up with fresh every 2-3 holes. If you get a box of the large strip plaster you can cut it down to size. I have a small plastic box in my bag at all times for emergencies. It has plaster strips (for blisters and any cuts from thorns etc), piriton (hayfever) neurofen (muscle pains) diocalm (sometimes get stomach upsets because of my dodgy pancreas) solpadene (headaches) and has a layer of toilet paper (emergency use and cleaning)

I presume you don't use a carry bag Homer :D

Actually yes I have always carried. Its only a small plastic pot that sits in the bottom of the main pocket. You can't believe how handy it has come particularly for helping partners. Even the toilet paper helped after one of my regular group felt the effects of a "dodgy pint" a few holes into our game.

The plasters are always useful especially when others are bedding in new shoes and the tablets just help with any minor aches or pains on the way round. I've a go-kart trolley now (christened it last Saturday) so I'm thinking of opening a mobile A&E service as I play ;)

I have been wonderign that - I've put it down to not swinging a club for nearly two month then hitting 200 balls at the range - It happened right at the end so I am hoping it was down to tierdness and not a grip issue.

Teeing off in 3 hours and 50 minutes so we will soon find out!!!

btw, box of platers in my bag and bought some compeed which will hopefully do.

If not - I have a ready made excuse for being rubbish!!!

Homer - got muscle gel and painkillers in my bag as essential items.
