Hi

I've got a bit of time on my hands at the moment so thought I'd see what advice there is on what to do as I can't play golf for a while.

I'm out of action following a hand injury - close to being only able to count to 9 if you see what I mean.

I can't drive for another 9 weeks (so can't easily get to a course / driving range) and 2 handed golf is out for at least that long. I'm also supposed to be careful about getting the hand cold so can't spend too long practising 1 handed putting outside unless the weather warms up a bit more.

So, any advice on what golf related stuff I can do - good books to read, videos to watch, online resources, etc.

A bit about my golf - played a lot when I was young so have reasonable basics, but gave up for a few years and then went about 10 years averaging a game a year. Started playing more regularly with friends 12 months ago, getting in 2-3 rounds per month and have dropped average score by 10-12 shots in that time. Probably looking at a handicap of 16-17 if I handed my last 3 cards in. I hit fairly long but am inconsistent around the green - from 50 yds in.

Any advice / suggestions appreciated, especially from any golfers with damaged digits (lack of movement / feeling, etc)

I'm in a similar predicament at the moment, but hopefully only for a few more weeks... I've taken the opprtunity to work on some fitness and strength. Bits of running and cycling, coupled with a 20 minute routine of push ups, sit ups and planks. Hopefully this will help when I get back on the course....

Thanks All

I've ordered 'Dream On' and 'Golf Anatomy' from the library.

I get my hand xrayed again next week and as long as the bones have started to knit back together the wires holding the finger together can come out and I can start some more serious activity. Having to keep the hand elevated and warm has limited what I can do, but hopefully things will get easier soon.

Thanks for the suggestions

Lad where I work, ruptured his achilles, he's in a full leg cast (toe to groin) for 3 weeks, then he'll be in a half cast for 6 weeks, after which he's not allowed to do any sport for 1yr, swimming he's been told is okay, as long as slowly lowers himself into the pool, no jumping or diving.

Glad to hear it's healing ok.

Obviously you can't do weights or anything, but I would work on stretches and exercises to improve your core strength and flexibility.

I had 4 months off after bilateral carpal tunnel operation and nearly went spare!
