seniors

Don't really see the need myself. Surely that's what handicaps are for. Should I be allowed to hit from a forward tee just because I don't hit it as far as some of the people I play with?

I think there should be a set of tees and that people of whatever age should be allowed to play from whichever suits their ability\enjoyment\state of mind.

Cant remember who said it but when playing the big resort courses you'd have more fun by playing from a forward tee than from the back blocks, was it Gary Player ?

Some resort courses have 5 tees to suit everyone- however, on 'normal' courses and if you are infirm or very mature it would be fine to have the Junior or ladies tees also classed as a Seniors tee imo

All seniors only stuff at our place goes from the yellows. Agree that enjoyment could be lost for loads if made to play from whites/ further back.

Personally rather than have a separate tee-box I would prefer they had a different course to play........
Harsh ... But fair!
Our course has introduced blue tees for seniors, they don't play them though :( even when they can't make the carry to the cut stuff. I cannot imagine it is much fun routing about in the rubbish nearly every tee shot because you cannot reach the fairway.
However I think and extendible pitch fork should be given to them so they can repair the damage they do to the greens ....

Most Seniors I've played with have a pretty low ball flight so rarely minimal damage, it's those players who bring their shots in from the stratosphere that cause the most damage but take your point Senoirs might find it hard to bend down to repair any pitchmarks .

my club has a lot of seniors and a fair few of them don't ever want to play off the white tee's even at 6500 the course is just too long for them when you take into acount the 2 or 3 club wind that you get on most of the front 9.

A lot of their comps are off the yellows and we get more play in the 3 comps held on the short winter course over the Christmas break than play in the club champs.

if they want to play of the shorter tee's fine by me, after all its about enjoyment.

Just do what I do and join a very VERY hilly course. Not many members make it to the senior section. On the down side, we do have an inordinate amount of plaques at the side of the fairways...

Its foot dragging as well ... As they shuffle around.

I think that's a completely different comp mate. Best not say too much about it...
I'm a senior and my h/c is taken from the medal tees and I don't drag my feet. Most senior open comps I play in are off the medal tees. Its still the KOKS comp. Kinky typo should have said wrinkly

We all get older, well most of us do. Older people are generally not as flexible or strong as they were and many lose distance so playing comps off the yellow tees is fine by me.

Seniors at most clubs are aged over 55 so some are still capable of playing from the tips. I know a guy of 90 who still plays twice a week and he is a real gentleman of the game but I guess some whippersnappers here would have him banned.
