• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

seniors

That's the one matey. Have you moved yet?

Houghwood on foot, carrying your bag, with a hangover.........

That would sort the men from the boys!

Love playing up on t'lump but have not been in a few years now

Got my Interview coming up in the next week or two hopefully. Really cant wait to be honest.

Never been a member of a "proper" golf club before :D

And all of them shuffle along at snails pace, don't repair pitch marks, don't let anyone through and spend ages on the tee box shuffling into the correct position while each other tees off

Come on John0, I know you're having a bit of a laugh at us old codgers and we know you're just taking the proverbial. However, how about putting your money where your big mouth is and taking on a challenge from a wrinkly near you? I'm sure there will be a small, slowly moving queue.

I can only spare 4 hours for a game of golf though, so if was playing a wrinkly I suppose it would have to be over just 12 holes :D

Twaddle Phil. We can play off any tee in bounce games! :whoo: even though I'm a "Senior"!

Sorry it's just what I was told was "universally accepted to be the convention and standard practise" :D

I thought you were talking about old boys that drove around on those golf trikes, wearing flat caps and glasses made from the bottom of cokes bottles?
55 yrs old ... You shouldn't have time to golf mid week, you should be working and contributing to the benefit of the generation who cannot be boffered to pick fruit or wash cars ....
Personnally I don't care how old people are, I only call it the way the evidence says, if I follow the old boys out the place is a mess. Frankly speaking, women get a lot of unfair stick, they are pretty quick, they keep it tidy and guess what they are polite... Unlike the old boys. The juniors, are okay, they need educating in etiquette at the beginning and then they get on with it and can be quite amusing.

But having said that, a club would do well to build some urinals around the course.

I'm sure 7 & 6 would be embarrassing enough for you - see, we can count as well.
Matchplay is off scratch old boy ... It's a true measure of quality one doesn't hide one's ability. A handicap really is like a push up bra and flat tummy knickers, it hides the truth.

:mmm:

Matchplay can be handicap ( in mainly at amateur club level )

Let the senior section decide what tee they use during senior comp but if playing in the main club comps then use the same tees as everyone else - I know plenty seniors still playing well of the whites

One of our seniors, who is 67 years old and plays off 2, equalled the course record and beat his age with a 65 (7 under), playing off the white competition tees last summer! So not everyone over the age of 55 shuffles slowly round the course, not being able to hit the ball out their own shadows!

Most of our senior qualifiers are played off the whites tees, although occasionally off the yellows in winter, and seniors play off the tee of the day for club qualifiers, usually whites or the even longer blue tees. Senior non-qualifying comps are normally played off the yellows.

Who mentioned handicaps? I assumed that John0's forum pseudonym meant that he was called John and that he was off scratch (that's what's usually meant by the 0). He talks as if he is a scratch golfer.

Is there any reason why ?
Not interested in listening to the " I get a shot here" ... Especially after the I will give you a good hiding and let's play for money lines. I will happily play lower HCs than me off scratch, I don't mind, presents a challenge.

So you guys going to play off the tips a scratch match play game ? John0 better clean your sticks up and set a date and place.
Enjoy it  you will find it really quite fun and highly competitive.

Sorry, it's way past my bedtime and I'm starting to get a little confused as to what we were talking about. On a brighter note, I'll be back tomorrow.

So you don't want to play guys with a higher handicap unless it's of scratch ?
