Just having a look through howdidido and noted our club has 7 players at scratch or better. How does that compare with your club and what may the average be across the country ?

Like handicap doesn't it depend on how difficult your course is?

Up to a point but you've got to knock it round gross under SSS regularly to get and keep a scratch handicap anywhere. An easy course will have a low SSS, maybe 3 shots below par so your "scratcher" has to shoot -4 gross regularly - and that doesn't take into account CSS either which could make it worse. SSS of 68 on a par71 and then CSS takes it to 67 means -4 gross doesn't get a cut.
You have to be pretty good to shoot -4, even on a pitch'n'putt.

12 at scratch or better, loads of cat 1 as well almost half the membership i think are single fig.

Not sure an easy course would suit a scratch player. there was an letter in club golfer from a handicap sec at a short course that always played 2 or 3 shots under par and the cat 1 players at the club never entered any club srokeplay medals. If they played to their hadicap still went up 0.1.

Nairn the css is always 2 over par and if you play comps off the blue i think its 75

No - in fact, an easier course is sometimes more likely to attract Cat1/Scratch players.

We have a course locally with I think 3 Par 5's which are 'easily' reachable in 2, and I know that quite a few Scratch or better players have moved there as they see it as an 'easier' route to + Handicaps.

0! However we have a 15 year old girl who is off 1. But she competes at higher level in national tourneys but is still a member at my club. She holds the ladies course record. We have another 1 capper and a 4.

go on to your clubs page and after selecting competition results, select view handicaps, after that filter it by category instead of alphabetically.

just checked we have 50 players in category 1 as well.
