Scottish Fitba'

Disappointed by Hibs yesterday.

Great atmosphere, 7000 of their fans there, on a great run (15 games unbeaten), was expecting a really exciting game. They were very poor, easy win for Celtic.

Livi v StJ this evening in last of the SC QFs. Even though StJ are struggling they are not that bad - and so should be able to manage Livi. But my expectations are not high.

Turned into a bore fest. I think they were just trying to stay in the game and hope for a chance.

Didn’t see it. Who pays for Premier Sports?
Pity if Hibs didn’t have a go but then Celtic are a champions league team.
Agree the rights should never have been sold to Premier Sports. I was at the game. I don't blame Hibs, every team needs a game plan they think will work for them.

It was a cracker,
There has been some seriously good goals in the SPFL and Cup this year

Teenagers Lennon Miller [Motherwell] and James Wilson [Hearts] named in Scottish squad.
Unfortunately Ben Doak is injured so I guess in for him.

Planning to go to hampden with my lad for the semi. He’s dead keen Saintee - even though Arsenal is his #1 team (at least in England). We missed out on the cup finals 2019/20 so will be good to go - even though a right drubbing is likely.

Will give you a wave, I'll be wearing green.
Suppose someone has to :) Going to buy my tickets in hope that my son can get work cover for the day (he's supposed to be in Manchester on the 19th). If he can't I'll see if my bluenose brother fancies coming along and cheering for Saints :ROFLMAO:

I see St.J are giving 3 stands to Celtic fans in the next game there. Pretty pathetic support.
If Perth and Perthshire folk are desperate to follow a winning 'big' team rather than their local one then that's their prerogative, and sadly that is the case across Scotland with the weegie B brothers attracting their support. Besides - the potential fan base of a club like StJ is not great to start with - Perth isn't exacting a metropolis.

And as far as games against either of the OF...much of the regular home support stays away as they can't stand the aggro and bile that they bring with them - sad but just a fact. And pragmatically the club just decides to extract as much money as possible from OF visit - again sad but true.

I experienced the jibes and jokes about being the only StJ fan in my Glasgow secondary school - in fact there were two of us - and it doesn't bother me. Mind - what did was that back in the day there was never such a thing as a replica StJ top - and so when we went to Lumley's on Sauchiehall Street it was to buy one that looked suspiciously like an Everton top - but that did me fine 😍

The likes of St. Mirren fans turn up in their usual numbers against the OF, I don’t see why the people from Perth are any different.

There are fewer of them (Perth and surrounds is much less populated than Renfrewshire) and maybe they are not like Paisley folk. Many Buddies seem to have a very strong 'we are not Glasgow' mindset and will stick with their town team.

It used to be said that much of the StJ support was from the countryside of Perthshire - and that the mid-week evening crowds for StJ were good because farmers and farm workers could attend evening games but could not attend Saturday games. Don 't know if that is still the case.

Their average crowd is 3-4 thousand. I assume they can fit them in the one stand allocated to the home support?

If that’s the case, it’s a sensible pragmatic decision to give the other 3 stands to away fans and maximise your income. Far more sensible than some clubs who would rather leave seats empty than sell them to away fans.

Me and my lad were discussing this yesterday evening. The fact is that there is a reasonably high prob that StJ will be relegated - no more OF gates for a while...so club makes the most out of the travelling Celtic support as it can - just pragmatic. Also my lad read that the club owners and management are feeling disappointed that all their efforts this season to attract more fans seem to have failed...so to regulars - sorry...has to be done.

Has to be borne in mind that it is thought that the greatest EVER number of Saint Johnstone fans at a match (ever, ever) was the 15,000 or so who went to the 2014 Scottish Cup Final at Parkhead (we were there with my mum and cousins (y)). The largest home crowd at the old ground (Muirton) was about 30,000 - and that was a 1950/51 Scottish cup game against Dundee - and well over half the crowd were Dundee fans.
