Southerness is the most underrated course I've ever played.

It is a magnificent golf course and a true test of golf. I'm really surprised it hasn't featured higher in GM or GW top 100 courses. So so tough but its fair. I played it on a fairly benign day and even then the closing holes into a gentle breeze were tougher than old boots!

I will say, if there are any local players in the field then that is a HUGE advantage round Southerness.

3 from my parkland course, think 2 are also members at southerness and from southerness I that I know of. All under 20. Sure Liam Johnston actually plays in the states through a uni scholarship

Looks like Southerness is beating a few up. CSS round 1, 75 round 2, 76 against par of 69. Cut at plus 10 and appears be some cars wrecks out there.

Pro at my parkland course was down yesterday, as his son was playing. overheard him say today in the shop that players were missing fairways a lot. His son finished 9 over yesterday. Tough course.

We hold the Selborne Salver in April, which this year needed at least a plus 1.4 handicap to qualify. Westwood, Rose, Ross Fisher, and more recently Andy Sullivan have all played in it. Sullivan shot a 60 when he won it. Three years ago one of our members won it, and got world amateur ranking points.

A guy I was playing with today, said that this tournament at southerness goes toward walker cup points

Young lad from my club is 9 over for his 2 rounds he started 8,6,5 welcome to reality think he came back in 32 in the first round.

my course is on the rota(every 4 years) to host the county cup, when it is our year the preparation is superb, the course look fantastic with fresh sand in the bunkers, the paths all done nicely and they close the green for a week prior to the comp, new flags and pins come out the clubhouse gets a spruce up and the car park brushed and cleaned and generally the place looks special,i put a letter to the board last year asking why the course was not like this week in week out after all the green fees not including the £1200 joining fees are knocking £1000,the reply was it costs a fortune to get the course in the condition laid down by the county, and would not be viable to do 52 weeks of the year, funny how they have the recruitment drive for new members on the same week?
