Whats your take on after market wedges?...
Are they just another unnecessary expense?

Are the wedges that come with our full sets just as good as Titleist's Clevelands, Wilson's,Pings. etc.?

Iv been wondering why the hell a Ping Tour S wedge can cost 130 euro when i could add a UW+LW to my i10 set for nearly the same price...

Whats the catch?...

If we are to believe all the advertising by these Big companies then to buy your set from whatever long iron to PW which most are only sold now then a 50,54,and 58 would add the extra expense of nearly 400 euro if were to go that route.

Surely there cant be that much difference between club set wedges and aftermarket wedges to justify the extra expense.

Whats your thoughts?

My AP2s came 3-pw so never had a set sw etc. I had several vokeys over the years but settled on the MDs for now.

The Gap/Sand/Lob wedges that could come as part of a set - like your i15's Kid - tend to be a bit bulky compared to the Vokey/MPT/CG15 style wedges that most people prefer. But if they work for you then don't be afraid to use them....

I have to say a lot of the sand wedges that come as standard (and it is getting rarer to see them as sets seem to be 4-PW) just seem hideous in the mose part and generate no confidence. I think there's a distinct need for a gap wedge otherwise the difference between PW and SW is too big and I'd rather pay for a SW with the loft and bounce I'm happy with than get lumbered with the stock version for the set

About the size though....You will find that in the Players Cavity backs and the Better player irons that the wedges are neat enough looking...

But when you contrast those to the like of the G.I and S.G.I Irons then i can completely agree with you.

When you get to players clubs like the MP63/Titleist CB/MB kind of club, they don't make a GW or SW in the range. THere is no MP63 gap wedge or sand wedge - if you want to stay Mizzy you pick MPT-11's or the new one.

When I got my titleist MB's the fitter was suggesting getting the set 3 - 9 and adding different wedges.....

I quite like it, I love my irons but I am not sure I would like chrome wedges. I guess I would take the gap wedge if they did one but I like my 56* Vokey though I think the choice would be nice.

I hate fat clubs and I think in clubs with as much as 50-60* loft on them the loft it's self becomes the forgiveness so no need for all that extra metal.

I'd rather not have even a small cavity in what you would call scoring clubs, so I've been tempted to buy a 47/48 degree Vokey to replace my AP2 PW.

I started trying to use the k15 UW and SW provided but quickly bought the Tour lob wedge as I find it much easier to use in greenside bunkers than the SW. For shots around the green it's either a pitch and run with a 9i or the lob wedge if there's trouble in the way. Occasionally I'll thin the lob wedge if the lies a bit tight but I'll live with that
