Scariest shot in golf ?

That 17th at Sawgrass is the reason the "Player's" will never be a Major. It's a naff hole to have down the stretch of a Championship. Miss the green and you're running up a big number. And loads of the best in the world miss it every year. I dislike holes with no bail-out area anywhere.

Needing 2 putts from 50 feet to win the Match is pretty scary.........

anything over water to the green. Especially with the pin at the front.

edit, after seeing Paul's post. also teeing off on the first with a crowd around the pro shop.

Being asked if I want to play through......scary as I always make a real mess of it

This is a good one!!!

For me its bunkers tight to a green with the pin close. I have the shot in my armory but its one that I am always glad to get done.

I think its a hangover from my first medal where I played into the bunker at the back and then the one at the front, back to the back and back to the front....

Agree about 17 at Sawgrass - fun for what it is but one dimensional. Just compare it to the 17th at St Andrews, a hole that you can play any number of ways and which can trip you up any number of ways.

My scariest shot in golf: full sandwedge off hard pan, wind behind, to the 7th green with the practice green beyond packed with kids getting ready for a junior comp..... I hit it heavy into the front bunker and was happy.

Short sided chip from a downhill lie that you have to carry a few feet first. (ie. so you cant putt it!!) Watch out on the other side of the green !!!

When i used to play at Leighton Buzzard GC, the clubhouse and pro shop was in range for a nice hook off the first tee - my specialty!
