Will be spending a week down there with the family in the summer and don't plan on forgetting my clubs.

Have done a bit of research on here and using trip advisor and want to hack around 3 courses. The shortlist is, well, short:

1. Filey
2. Ganton
3. South Cliff

I've heard only good things about Filey but have heard that whilst Ganton is 'steeped in history', the welcome and customer service can be poor due to snobby members. Can anyone comment? I'll be playing alone and not too bothered about going for food and drink afterwards, but do I also want to pack a blazer and tie in case I want a shandy afterwards?!

South Cliff looks friendly enough.

Can anyone recommend any other courses?

Also, if there are any forumers down that neck of the woods looking to meet up for a game, that would be great.

A mate of mine used to work at South cliff for a while and its a cracking course. Members pretty friendly too. Watch yourself over on the cliff top side, it can get rather choppy! I remember slamming a driver at a par 3 and being short!

Filey is also a nice course and well worth playing, never really bumped into any members there so cant comment on them etc but the place seemed friendly enough. Course was in great nick when I played it too.

Ganton don't believe the myths about the place. Its very friendly and is absolutely top notch. The course is fantastic but remember your bucket and spade

Drive 30 mins North from Scarborough Dave to my home town of Whitby, fantastic links course right on the cliff. Where I learnt to play the game 20 years ago. Played it last summer and it's fantastic, although I am slightly biased. When in the summer are you playing?

If you fancy driving 20 miles inland Malton & Norton is a great course and in excellent condition despite the weather.

Really?? Have they worked on the drainage there recently? It used to be renowned in the area for getting very wet and being closed quite often. I played it in nice conditions and it is a lovely setup there

Pretty certain you'll get a game with someone else during the summer. York is reasonably close by and sure some of the North East golfers will fancy a game up the coast.

Ganton is worth a visit played it once and really want to play it again. G e me a shout closer to the time might have a dodge down for a game

Do NOT miss out on playing Ganton, I rate it in the top 3 inland courses in the Uk along with Sunningdale and Woodhall Spa.

(Did you see I never mentioned which Sunningdale course? Not starting up the Old v New debate again :D )

Ganton is superb, and the two times I've played there the course was fantastic (December and February). The welcome was also one of the best I've had. It is also a helluva lot better than Whitby and a good bit better than Fulford. The final four holes are on of the hardest- up there with Carnoustie and Littlestone for me.

Filey is great. So is Scarborough North Cliff, especially the holes on the far side of the road. I have never played South Cliff, so can't comment. I would also go a little further down the road to Flamborough, a great course with a very friendly welcome and Bridlington Links, a long course and a good test. In Bridlington itself is Bridlington Belvedere, which again is a great course with a friendly welcome.
I am not sure about Scarborough, but Filey, Flamborough and the two Bridlington courses do a passport, which is a cracking deal. I think it is called the Golf Coast Passport. Have a look on Google. BTW, the full English breakfast at Flamborough is worth the trip alone!

South Cliff is better than North Cliff but both are worth the visit.
Not played Filey for 30 odd years so can't really comment.

Ganton... yes please!!! The welcome was fine, including the chat with the Club Sec.
