Scanner on Computer not working/installed

Changed computer but not my printer and now I cannot scan adocument. When I go through the slow process of Windows Fax and Scan/ new scan/save desktop/ etc I still cannot send a scan

Has anyone ant solutions for someone who is not the most comuter literate guy in the world?

Did you reinstall the software that cane with the printer/scanner? If the CD has gone walkies you could download the drivers and software from the manufacturers website.

What he said, but best to get the latest drivers especially if your pc software is a later version (eg last pc = Windows XP, new PC = Windows 7).

also what operating system is your new pc running, if windows 7 is it 32 or 64 bit?

Thanks for all you help. It is officejet all in one HP5510.

Im really hopeless at Computing but the Computer is 12 months old and it is The Windows Model from then. Does Windows 9 sound correct?

What you need to do is click START
Then RIGHT click "Computer" and then left click Properties

A box comes up and will tell you if you have Vista or Windows 7 and if it is 32 or 64 bit.

Im afraid that HP cant be arsed to upgrade their software for this particular model to windows 7.

They have a basic driver , which you already have installed, and you are limited to "windows Fax & Scan" as your software unless you have some other scanning software available.


Can you preview the scan in windows fax n scan?

Try scanning and then hitting file, save as and then tell it to put it on the desktop or in pictures.

where exactly does it fall down, can you go through the process step by step and tell me exactly where its going wrong

When we press Scan it states 'You need to install or run Hp software.

We managed to scan by start/all programmes/windows fax and scan/ new scan/scan/save as/desk top/ windows live mail/ email file/ send.

The scan is a very small copy and unreadable by the recpient. However it will not send from my out box and states there are errors. Hope this makes sense

Ok try this

Rather than using the scan to email option, you need to do a normal bog standard scan
Save it somewhere where you can easily find it

Open your email program, start a new email and add the photo as an attachment

This should work, its a work around i don’t rate windows live mail, too many problems like this one
