As I am now the proud owner of the aforementioned device (courtesy of Santa and my rather special missus) I am hoping to kill a couple of birds with one stone. Has anyone here used the galaxy tab as a GPS on the course? I'm wondering about battery life here - would it last a full round? Had a great gps app for my iPhone but it wouldn't last a full round. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot specifically speak for the galaxy tab as I havent owned one but as with most mobile devices the biggest drain on battery life are the display backlight and radios. So if you want to give it the best possible chance of surviving 18 holes, dim the display and/or get the backlight to turn off frequently. Also turn off Wifi (nothing worse for battery life than leaving WLAN on when you are nowhere near your network). Also turn off the phone or if you really want to keep it on whilst playing golf (tut tut) switch network to 2G mode instead of 3G.

These measures will help increase battery life.

So, as I read it, if you turn everything off it will last longer?

What is it anyway?

Yes put simply turn off what you dont need whilst you are playing golf.

Samsung Galaxy is a tablet device. A bit like an Ipad but smaller and it runs Android OS.

It wouldnt be used round my home track, rely on the mark 1 eyeball, my striking isnt consistent enough to require super accurate yardages. I would use it when playing new courses for the first time
