Sad to see Jammydodger going.

Had the pleasure of playing with JD at Beau Desert, I know he was suffering with his back after about 30 holes but that didn't dampen his spirit and he was great company. Sad to see him give up the game, I'll even forgive him for taking the P out of the direction my bunker shot on the 14th that day.

I'd like to think that he'd continue to play, certainly at some time in the future. There comes a time when expectaion far outweighs the amount of effort you're prepared to put in....(just ask Smiffy)....

Perhaps he'll play in a couple of years off a less demanding h/cap and really enjoy it with a few buddies.... 12 or 13 h/cap should do it :D:lol::ears:

I'd be his wingman any day....

and Murph was right about his erm,.... 'windypops'!

JD - top man.

Good luck with what's next. I know how you feel. I have gone long periods in my life with no golf.

You might want another bash in a couple of years.

All the best mate.

Snelly.

Hi guys

Bllimey , what can I say ? It's very humbling to hear such nice words from you all. I just happened across this thread by chance after checking through my for sale items.

I'll just give a brief explanation for my disappearance from the forums. I didnt want to make a fuss about giving up and thought i'd just slip out of the door quietly and hope no-one would notice i'd gone and you'd soon forget all about me....(sniff,sniff)

I think between you you've pretty much summed up my feelings about the golf although Justone has nailed it down pretty succinctly. As my h/c got lower conversely my appetite for the game went the other way. I wish i'd just chilled out and not chased it so hard. I would have loved to just play socially with the odd medal here and there and had a h/c that facilitated that (something around 8 sounds reasonable). Let this be a warning for you h/c chasers , be careful what you wish for.

Mind you there was other stuff adding to the frustrations too , like slow play , ridiculous decisions from committees , unfriendly people and even cases of cheating. All these things and more added up to me not wanting to go near the course anymore and when I did I would go up on my own early in the morning.

Ah well enough waffle , again thanks for your kind words and i'll not forget the great times I had meeting you guys and having some of my best golfing experiences playing with many of you. I'll try to lurk around occasionally and you never know I might have a change of heart in a few years.

JD

All the best JD in your future endeavours whatever road you may take.

Hope to see you back.

JD.....I'll loan you a spare set of clubs for this years Help for Heroes match!!! Take care pal.....it was great fun playing with, albeit I had to make sure i was always upwind.....

stay in touch...

JD I've lived with the feelings you are having for the past 3 years. I joined the forum to bring some fun back into the game when I was literally about to bin my clubs and let me tell you...when forumers meet up for a knock it's bloody brilliant.

I'd emplore you not to give up but to rethink your reasoning... it's a game! It doesn't matter if you can't reproduce the shots you played last year, it really doesn't matter whether you shoot 2 over par or 20 over par (just ask Smiffy about the latter) it's FUN. We have a great laugh, a few drinks and then we do it all again in a couple of weeks... you just need to find the right group of people... and here we are! :)

Yes it sucks when you're getting old (that's you by the way!, not me) but did you never notice the amount of old codgers chipping their way round the course?... friendship, companionship, banter... that is what LIFE is about.... and trying to get laid of course

I don't think I'll ever play like I did in 2001 and frankly I don't care whether I do or not, once you can accept your level then it's just about adjusting your goals... perhaps 4 rounds in Spain with the lads might help??? :D

I played round Blackmoor with Rich and several forumers a few weeks ago, I was on the 8th tee at 2 over thinking "OK, a couple of birdies and it'll be a good front 9"..... cue TRIPLE, double, QUADRUPLE, double :D

Will it take away my passion for playing the game? Never. I've done the good scores and I've done the bad.... I never really had a good time when I was doing all the good scoring...I felt good about MYSELF but never the game of golf. Now the bad days are simply hilarious and makes the game, the friendship and the banter so much more worthwhile.

Why not play twice a month with no practice and see what you can score? will it matter if you can't break par? I think not!....... Will it matter if you're not in good company? Absolutely!

You have nothing to prove to anyone apart from yourself.

OOB onto the 18th fairway (more than once?) per chance? :D

Aside from that, an inspiring post. Best of 2012! :D

I can't believe it I agree with James. I would mention that he holed a good putt on 11 to save his double. Seems a shame to give up the chance of playing with a great bunch on here, even if you don't want to play club golf JD.

couldnt agree more with what justone put.. when i hit dry spells put the clubs away for a month and then go out with no expectations other than to half a laugh, its amazing how quick the drive comes back.

just think, if you quit, you wont be able to set snellys ball on fire again.

LMAO , now that was funny stuff. Remember those guys walking past as the blaze erupted into a small bonfire. Priceless times. I've never laughed as much as I did that day. Quality company and as you say the forum meets are great days out as you can bottom burp as much as you like and no-one takes offense.
