Ryder Cup Team

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

Gmac and Poulter wil defo be picks if not automatic. Would not go for Westwood based on form. Monty is a good shout, two senior major wins and experience invaluable

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

There's still a fair amount of golf to be played yet before the tem is decided. There's a WGC event, another Major, The PGA Championship and The Barclays to be played over the water and that will probably have a part to play in the Worldl List. Add to that Denmark, Czech Masters and the Italian Open on this side of the water and they could still have a part to play on the final European list.

Looking at the lists this morning, I'd be happy to go with the players below, with the last three being picks.

McIlroy
Dubisson
Donaldson
Stenson
Garcia
Rose
Kaymer
Bjorn
Donald
Gallacher
McDowell
Poulter

I'd expect some change on the World points list though

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

whats that got to do with being on form?

No doubt Monty is having a great season .........in the Seniors
You can't compare the 2 tours, it is fair to say he has easier opposition and he is a spring chicken compared to some.

He hasn't been able to compete with the youngsters for a couple of years on the main tour.

I also wouldn't pick monty because as an ex captain and natural leader, he would unwittingly usurp McGinleys authority

Having said that, I like Monty and have the utmost respect for his achievements.

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

i think the team looks pretty solid. I'm not wild about Donaldson, but then every team ends up with someone in it that doesn't initially strike you as a ryder cup player. Bjorn I'm so so about but he's probably a good player for Gleneagles in September, it's right up his street.

after winning in France, GMac i'd say was a solid pick and I'd plump for Poulter as well. Third pick will go to whoever plays best in the PGA and at the most boring event on tour (Firestone). I'd probably only pick Gallacher if he had two good showings there and jumped over Donaldson in the world points list.

That said, I'm confident that they'll beat the US team regardless of picks. last time out I thought the US had one of the strongest teams in recent history, not so inspired by the current side.

Dangerous underestimating the influence of Tom Watson. I think on paper the Yanks always seem to have the better individuals, but I think this time Watson will mold them into a proper team that will win by a close margin. Especially after throwing the last one away where, lets face it, they should have spanked us.

So what about this time?

On paper, at least, I don't think you could say the US have the better individuals so it would appear to be "team" versus "team".

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

oooh, would love it if he picked Monty - this place would go into meltdown!

I think Poulter is a cert and not a million miles of qualifying anyway. GMAC a good bet and I really do think a Scottish player would be a good pick if one was close to qualifying by right.... Gallacher seems the likeliest.

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

Much as I am 'anti-Poults' (though that's softening), he'd have to be injured not to be the first name on my list!

Jiminez should be there too, not only as a foil to Garcia, but to soften the tension around the team!

Gmac would be another pick. Too much class not to be imo. Though Bjorn wouldn't be bad either. Depends on how PMcG wants the 'dressing room' to feel!

Westwood and Bjorn as VCs?

On both the World and European lists Bjorn is an automatic pick at present.

Current nine automatics are:-
McIlroy
Dubuisson
Donaldson
Stenson
Garcia
Rose
Kaymer
Bjorn
Donald

Next nearest includes:-
Poulter
McDowell
Gallacher
Luiten
Jimenez

Obviously could be some significant changes over next five or six weeks but I would find it hard to envisage Westwood making the team.

That takes my (slightly unusually unresearched) issue away then!

Gallacher (or Poulter, allowing PMcG to pick Gallacher) to sneak past Donald? Definite form issues, like Westwood, from changes. Would be disappointing to see him miss out, but I think it that would be a stronger team.

Re: Ryder Cuo Team

Personally I would pick GMAC, Poulter and Westwood in that order as all 3 have so much experience and make solid Foursome partners for any members of the team.
