Ryder Cup 2025 - only for highly skilled golfers this time

I reckon Charley Hull has more chance than Sergio...

I don't think Rahm is guaranteed. We all know that he SHOULD be nailed on, but it is fact that his showings in Majors since moving have not generally been near his expected standard.

Donald can't just pick on reputation, hopefully Rahm will make himself undroppable.

Anyone like McKibbin or Puig who isn’t playing full time on the European tour and has no access to majors will get nowhere near qualifying

It will be near impossible to gain the amount of required points and they won’t get a pick
??? McKibbin is in The Open. Puig is fairly certain of being in the PGA, and only needs one or two decent results to get into both the US Open and The Open.

A points system that is heavily skewed towards the PGA Tour (and it's signature events) is going to be the obstacle for most players.

He came 7th in the Open. And he didn't play the USO due to injury I think? I'm sure we'll see good performances from him in this year's majors, he's too good.

He was also T45 at the Masters and missed the cut at the USPGA.

T45, MC and 7th are not "near his expected standard".

Have you just made this so someone can point out that Rahm is obvious cert for the team and then you can make some glib remarks about LIV? I'll be that guy if you want.

Rahm will obviously be in the team.
No he did it to make us aware of something called the Ryder Cup just in case we as golfers were unaware of it

I think Canter is really coming onto a game. Into top 50, majors coming up now, if he keeps up this form and the way he’s going I can see him in NY

That's two bad majors. So what? McIlroy also missed the cut at a major last year. So did Fleetwood. It happens.
Yes obviously I know it happens...

But the whole point is that LIV players have much fewer chances to prove their form in relation to the rest of the world's top players.

As I said, I hope Rahm makes himself undroppable this year by doing well in the Majors.

Hovland +5 on day one of the Arnold Palmer. What even happened to him? Did he do a Kaymer and make a swing change that backfired? Personal issues? If he can get back to his best he's a huge asset for us, but if not it puts us in the difficult position of whether to pick him and just hope he suddenly turns up with his best stuff.

Rory
Rahm
Aberg
Hatton
Lowry
Fleetwood
Straka

Above are near certain, barring injury

Options for next 5, in likelihood of getting a spot, one way or another. I’m sure someone left field will make a strong case too.

Hovland
Bob
Rose
Detry
Rasmus
Nicolai
Canter
Puig
Garcia
Fitz

Yeah its weird. A great many tier 1 tour pros that reach the very top level only get their peak to last around 18-24months. They’re still able to make a very comfortable living for years, even win things, but the peak in form that brought them to everyone’s attention is rarely longer than 2yrs

It remains to be seen if Hovland is one of those or one of the very very few who go on an extended peak period like Rory/Tiger etc

In fact we don’t yet know if even Scheffler will see his peak break well past 2 years, will he be another Spieth or another Tiger?

Someone in the top 25 of the world, and a PGA Tour winner last year, doesn’t even make your possibles?

Based on the limited times I’ve seen him in contention he has a horrid short game and putts pretty badly under pressure

Was pretty minging in the Team Cup as well.

I just don’t think he’s suited to matchplay or big pressure

Would need a big year in the big tournaments. Nothing against him and would love to be proven wrong!

Sergio confirming that he's had conversations with Luke Donald and that the Captain is monitoring his performances. A good showing at Augusta and he'll be very much in the frame.

Didn't he get untold stick when he played at Bethpage in a big competition, a few years back? Unless he has an unbelievable year, I really think he shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

Whilst I do not like LIV and particularly where their funding comes from, I do understand why a golfer would take the massive sums they put on offer. As you say, you never know in golf how quickly your game can go from good to incredibly bad. Baker-Finch probably being the poster boy for this.
