Not really. Why does someone attending a sporting event for a few minutes mean that we all have a free pass to engage in a politically motivated debate?

It happened in 1993 with Sam Torrance (foot injury if memory serves) he and Lanny Wadkins sat out the singles and the match was halved

It's the point of the envelope
Both Captains put a name in an envelope, if a player from either side gets injured or is ill then the name in the envelope sits it out and the match is halved or tied..
Unless I missed it, I’m not sure it says anywhere in the Rules of Golf that I can’t concede a match at any point of my choosing. And a concession can’t be declined by the player it benefits.
Isn’t it part of the Ryder Cup agreement?

I really like the idea that you can go to the Ryder cup and cheer your team on.
Singing songs on the 1st tee and cheering every holed putt or miracle shot is great.
The idea of paying a lot of money to abuse someone you don’t know or have never met just confuses me.
I don’t have a problem with a cheer if your opposing team puts one in the water or misses a short putt but to actually abuse them is not what sport is based on.
I think there are going to be some interesting interviews and things put out on social media once this one is finished.

I might not have been as clear on the second paragraph of the first post.
I meant that if “contractually” they had to continue to play then they could concede hole by hole until they lost the match.
