Ryder Cup 2025 - All matters

In only three months? No, no chance. You still take a chance on him because he's a million miles better than the other possible picks.

Yes in only three months

It doesn’t take much for a rot to hit

it’s never as black and white

He will more than likely get a pick if he keeps up the same level of consistency

Most of his appearances are going to be on LIV in that time, and people will tell you that winning there doesn't mean anything because it's a reduced field, only 3 days, and no jeopardy on it whether you win or lose. So surely it works both ways and a bit of bad form is irrelevant there too?

He can book his flights and hotel right now if he likes. (Well I'm sure they'll do that for him actually. 😆 )

His form on LIV will be relevant - just as it is now , just as his form in the last major will be and any other DP tour event he will play

It doesn’t have to be a “LIV” thing

Because he isn’t earning points right now beyond the majors he can only be judged by what’s happening in the events he plays

According to ESPN, he's been top ten for every LIV event this year. He's been top 15 in all three majors (T10 in two). He missed one cut in the Desert Classic back in January.

Yeah, a complete and total loss of form looks imminent. (y) 😆

Then he has nothing to worry about does he 🤷‍♂️

Plenty of golfers has had significant loss of form very quickly and that includes multiple major winners

I think the team will be very similar to last time with

Fitzpatrick missing out with Rasmus Hojgaard in

Then a straight pick between

Detry
Wallace and
N Norgaard for that last spot

I always have my doubts with Wallace, seems a bit temperamental. And maybe not much of a team player? That Neergaard-Peterson seems to be near the top of leaderboards a lot, could see him squeezing his way in.

Would Nicolai Hojgaard get in? He seems a long way down the list. Replaced by his brother this year maybe. I wouldn't mind if Detry is in, he seems pretty solid. Rai has a chance I think.

Rai and Neegard-Petersen definitely in the mix

I think Detry will get the spot but it’s close imo

Yes but you're posting with the benefit of knowing what we know today ... that the original commenters could not know when they commented as none of it had happenned yet.

If he had been missing major cuts and consistently placing bottom half in LIV then he'd be in danger - there would have been a very strong argument for not using a pick on him. Yes that level of performance doesn't happen to a fit and even-vaguely-in-form Rahm but the margins are fine at the top and even the best are one niggly unreported injury from looking very ordinary. Of course as things NOW stand with him looking only a small step down from his best, unless he completely forgets how to twirl a stick in a circle between now and Sept, there's no credible or sensible argument for not picking him.

I said all long there was never a chance of him missing the Ryder Cup team. There were others all but writing him off based on the fact he joined LIV and missed one major cut.

I don’t believe anyone “all but writing him off” basing on him going to LIV

The point was very simple

He wouldn’t gain enough points to guarantee automatic selection and would have to rely on a captains pick and that would more than likely be judged on his major performances

Rubbish.
it would be judged on his overall form on LIV & in majors.
Do you honestly believe that Luke won’t be keeping an eye on how the Europeans are playing on LIV??

This autumn we will have a biennial competition called the Ryder Cup between European and American golfers.

There are 12 players on each team, so was thinking at who might make the European selection :

1. McIlroy
2. Fleetwood
3. Hatton
4. Åberg
5. Lowry
6. Big Shot Bob
7. Straka

These are the absolute certainties.

An interesting case is :
8. Hovland.
Badly needs a good summer, and amazing to think he mightnt make the team. I think he will sneak it.

Likely :
9. Detry - I see him making it
10. Rose - one last tour of duty. Last time looked like the last time. But I think another last time is still in him this last time.

11, 12 is a real dogfight between :
Pavon. Need several more good results before selection day
R Hojgaard. Needs a good showing in a major. See him just missing out
Rai. Being a 3 day event will count against him. Nobody wants to wait around until Monday for him to hit a putt
Rahm. Is he still playing golf ? Or retired ? Or ?
Canter. Is he of the level ? Another man who could benefit from a top 5 push in a major
Jaeger. A long shot, but not out of it.

Pavon + ??? for me, but there is some ground to cover yet.

Europes chances hang on the form at the time of three who need to show up : can Hovland get back in gear, has Rose really one last shot, does Detry sustain.
If you think Rahm isn't going to be there you're mistaken.

Probably both to be honest. Still time for someone else to have a good late run of form, maybe a good performance in the Open and nab themself a call-up.

Yes, massive slab of points available at The Open so only worth worrying about it after that.

The top 10 look nailed on and like “the right” top 10 as long as Hovland keeps his current upward form path going. Add Rahm and does the 12th player even get a game other than the singles?

Think Captains have learned their lessons and Europe always seem to ensure that every player gets played on the first day
