Ryan Giggs

At Liverpool he was (2 games away from winning 3 doubles), won the league with Blackburn. Finished 2nd with Newcastle and got them to a cup final.

Eventually dipped with Newcastle and didnt do it at Celtic, for balance.

Inherited a cracking Liverpool team, bought the league with Blackburn and similar but epic failure with Newcastle.

I always think a manager should have a presence about them. Giggs doesn't have that for me.......maybe he is different behind closed doors.

or in the bedroom!!!

But I agree. He comes across reasonably well in interviews when he was on the documentary about Salford but doesn't to me have that leadership or cutting edge you need to manage a group of players.

He could be another Gary Neville!!

I wouldnt agree, they had won nothing the year before he became manager, but did the double in his first year as manager, and by the time he created Liverpool's best ever team (1987-88), few remained from Joe Fagan's team.

Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Hysen, Nicol, Beglin, Mcmahon, Molby, Macdonald had replaced Dalglish, Rush, Johnston, Lee, Souness, Lawrenson,Neal and Kennedy from the 1984/85 team.

As I said, apart from Arsenal's late winner and the Wimbledon shock result, he nearly did 3 doubles in 3 years, so harsh to say it was due to the previous manager.

True but he turned you from the biggest club in England into to a bit of a laughing stock after he left.

Oh well I'm going to stick up for Souness! Not a top manager but winning trophies with four clubs in three countries makes him well above average in my book....

It's only my opinion Kaz. I must admit though I like him as a pundit, he speaks a lot of sense.

You are correct, for some strange reason what is left of my mind thought he won the top league in England with Blackburn and Liverpool. Put that with his 3 Old Rangers league titles and that would have been quite unique.
BUT I checked and it was only the Diddy cup and the EFA cup. I never really rated him either:lol:.

I think you are confusing Souness with someone else Doon, his record in Scotland was decent with 3 titles and 4 league cups but in England and Turkey all he has is cup wins nothing more and certainly no UEFA trophy.

Great player but not a great manager, decent manager though.

Good summary of Souness

Did well at Rangers but went about things all wrong at Liverpool - got rid of too many players who were still at the top of their game - Beardsley a perfect example
