No penalty..........straight from the horses mouth (R&A).

Apparently tapping down your marker even if it is a 2 minutes after you have originally marked your ball is still part of the act of marking your ball.

You can see how simple the rules of golf really are eh..........?!

This happened to Jim Furyk a couple of years ago with his marker sticking to the bottom of his putter. No penalty. Probably on google somewhere.

If its clearly their routine and you are happy that it is part of the routine then it's going to be ok.

can't see this ever being true - if part of their routine is an infringement then routine or not you'd be penalized. Just ask Saltman.

But we've already established that it is perfectly ok and it's not an infringement.

The difference is that Saltman was cheating .. he didn't put his ball back where it was when he marked it, there is no allowing that and I can't see how anyone is mixing up the two issues!

The burd at the R&A said that the tapping down was still part of 'making sure the marker was secure'....

Not sure why you are confusing the two separate issues Viscount,ones cheating the other aint.
