i was playing a round of golf thismorning and my friend accidently trod on my ball whilst it was still in play. would there be a penalty towards him if so what ? please write back.

if searching for the ball there is no penalty as long as it is replaced (if moved)

if just in general play and the ball is trodden on then there is a penalty of one shot.

Only if they are an opponent ie matchplay. In stroke play they are usually fellow competitor. the ball is replaced and no penalty to anyone. Because lie has been altered and cant be placed back on the spot it is placed on a similar lie no nearer the hole. Failure to replace the ball is a penalty of two shots to the player that owns the ball.
