The more I read this forum the more evident it becomes how little I know about the finer nuances of the game! and the more I play the more situations arise where some knowledge is required, especially now I am entering club comps etc.

Do you carry any form of quick reference guide or even a copy of the R&A Rules of Golf when playing?

I seem to remember a post covering this once, but blowed if I can find it now :D

Always always always carry a rule book in your bag.
The reason? Not to check up on the rules yourself!!!
When your playing partner ot opponent tells you you have done something wrong and you dont agree, hand him or her your rule book and ask them to show you the rule.
Sneaky, but effective. :)

Cheers Bob - I had previously downloaded the pdf but didn't realise it was available free from the club etc.....and didn't fancy carrying my laptop around the course too! lol

I have a very good book from Jezz to review called Golf Rules Explained which I'm more than happy to forward to anyone (providing Jezz and GM are happy with this). Its a simplified breakdown (illustrated of the rules) and gives decisions on common mistakes and occurences.

Its not definitive and you should always carry a copy of the rules in the bag (I use the freezer bag method to keep mine dry too) as there will come a time when something will crop up and you'll need some help.

It's been said before but I'm going to say it agian anyway -the Rule Book is only a marginally better read than the Highway Code - and how many of us have read that!
We seem to pick up snippets of rules from fellow players, forums like this or other routes. How many of us have honestly sat down and read the rule book cover to cover?
