Rugby Sevens

Cricket was in the doldrums and needed 'saving'... Not really the case with rugby...

And it's not exactly a time-consuming spectator event anyway.
Test Cricket can take 5 days, T20 takes, what, 3-4 hours..?
Rugby takes 80 minutes plus a little, 7's takes 14 plus a bit - not really saving much useful time there...

The All Blacks were cynical foulers and a bit of a disgrace to their country and the sport.
Two yellow cards against Scotland and another one [by the baldy/beardy guy that the ref missed] should have been a straight red.

All the African teams played with great spirit and 'honesty'

Sums up the bits I saw perfectly!

The Yellow in the Final was particularly stupid - a 'proper' AB would be ashamed of such action!

One of the 'issues' I have with the team sports like 7s, Hockey, Netball etc. that are in the Games - it's ok to cheat! That's something that is 'fine' in their own World Cups/Championships, but not, for me, in the Games!

I thought all the refs were first class.........stood their ground and took no nonsense.

Ok to cheat ? What do you mean ?

Plenty of opportunity for subtle nudges etc. When it's up to an Umpire/Referee to sort out those sort of clashes, then it's not the sort of thing that I think should be included. Different for the likes of Judo (or even Boxing), where certain decisions have to be made on a technical basis.

Think about Suarez's diving - as a not particularly random, but an obvious example. Is that 'part of the game'? Cheating? Fair play? It's the ability to do that sort of thing and perhaps profit from it that rules most team sports out of 'Games sports' for me. Though I still enjoy watching them and it's another big tournament for them too!

So in the common wealth games you expect no fouls etc in sport like netball and hockey etc ?!!

Just because someone commits a foul shouldn't mean they are "cheating"

Correct. There's a difference between 'fouls' and 'cheating'.

Has any footballer (Suarez for example) dived or simulated a foul (or cheated in any other way) in order to get a Free Kick/Penalty? If so, then it's not a sport that should be in the Games imo. Same applies to Hockey, 7s etc. Netball/Basketball are marginally Ok as, supposedly, non-contact!

'Cheating', or even something close to it, in other sports - athletics etc. - results in a DQ!

So now teams should be DQ if someone dives ?

Can't recall many dives in both hockey and netball yet you were talking about cheating in both sports.

Where did I suggest either of those!!!

Seems like you are trolling/flaming to me, so I'm out!

In post 22 you suggest it's ok to cheat in sports like 7's and netball and hockey then started going on about team sports in the games and ruling them out of the games and going on about diving in other sports bar football ?!

I'm not trolling - just responding to your posts and about cheating and team sports

Whatever sport at whatever level is down to the officials to do their job and apply the laws/rules as they see applicable and deal with foul play accordingly. In the rugby, I thought NZ were looking to gain an advantage, got penalised and paid the price with yellow

Read his post again and take in the context, he doesn't like the fact it's ok to cheat.

For clarity to though, it's not ok to cheat but in some sports there are deliberate fouls which shouldn't be tolerated, like holding players to the ground in 7's which often gets overlooked. That's what I think Foxholer was getting at.

It reads that he is suggesting that it appears it's ok to cheat in both hockey and netball - hence why I asked about the comment

It appear he is judging team sports along the lines of football which is extremely unfair towards other sports like hockey and netball etc

I don't believe any sport believe it's ok to cheat

Yes there are fouls - deliberate etc but they are fouls as opposed to "cheating"

Deliberately fouling is cheating, in football it's punished by yellow or red cards, like wise in rugby. Some referees in all sports tolerate some don't which I think was Foxholers issue and it not being for him in the games

It's not cheating for me - cheating is a very very strong word

Taking drugs is cheating , deliberately letting in goals etc to gain money is cheating , ball tampering etc - all very serious events

Fouls etc are part of most sports ( including individual sports ) and I treat them as fouls - just don't like to dish out the word cheat.

So a keeper that comes out to a striker through on goal and hauls him to the ground to stop a goal is just fouling or cheating??

It doesn't matter how strong a word it is, if a football player standing on the goal line handles the ball deliberately to stop a goal then that is cheating, like it or not. Pulling a player by the jersey when he is clean through on goal and dragging him back is cheating.

Like it or not, cheating is cheating, using foul play to gain an advantage is cheating.

You can dress it up however you feel like, facts are facts.

There was a superb atmosphere at the Rugby and all the teams played to the spirit of the game except the All Blacks.

I said that they were cynically fouling which Foxholer agreed with........end of.
