Having just recieved this months mag.
As i normally do,i flick through quickly before settling down
to read every page.
Got to the page,Rorys secret power move.
Well to me this was no secret.
About a year ago i went onto the internet and got to a slow mo of Rorys swing.
I noticed he moved his left hip out of the way early in his swing.
On looking at it full speed you could see how quickly he did this move.
So i thought i would give it a go.
Unbelievabe results,i was hitting my 3 wood much further than before, however the
move did not work as well for my irons.
My playing partners were commenting how well i was striking the ball, and the extra
distance i was achieving.
However there was a down side,i had ,after a few weeks of the new swing a very tender
left hip.I could hardly touch the hip as it was so painfull.
This then started to effect my swing,i could no longer move my hip quickly, and i
started to protect my hip.
This resulted in a poor strike, and poor form.
After a few months my hip has now got better,i no longer do Rorys power swing to the
max.
I think i will have to admit im getting older and no longer have the flexibility.
My advice seek doctors advice before trying.

This is why I don't really like Rory's swing. It is great to look at, but he will need to rebuild it as he gets older, or end up in a wheel chair.

I would never copy it, as I am not as supple as him, and am twice the age.

At your age, you should know better too!

It's interesting to know how Rory does what he does, but completely pointless from an instructional standpoint, I'd say. We are not physically capable of repeating it, much as I'd like to kid myself otherwise.

The answer is to probably copy the swing of a professional golfer of your own age. In my case I do not think there are any!
If Rory continues to swing as he does I'm covinced he will do himself some serious damage later on.

That's just weird. I knew he spun his hips quickly but I've never noticed they went backwards for a split second.

Can you even think about doing that while you're swinging or does it have to be natural?

(I'm NOT thinking of trying it btw)

It happens in lots of swings Gary.. even mine and probably yours. I'm not sure why the headline statement about it but maybe because it's more apparent in his swing. Here's an example...

watch the black button on the back of DJ's trousers up by his belt....

You're lucky you didn't do any serious damage Pokerjoke. Out of interest did you get any pain in your right lower back?

Well now you ask,i remember being in pain, but only because my hip
was hurting so much i was over compensating, and anticipating the pain
that was about to come.
I also suffer from bad back, and have constantly visited chiropractors over the years.
I have now toned down the movement and my hip has recovered.

interesting, I get pain in the back lower left when practicing, whats that all about? not enough hip turn I wonder?

I turn my hips at the start of the transition down and there's two things that really help

They are 2 replacement hips !

Chris

...and therein lies the problem. Your lower back is trying to flex too much (it won't twist no matter how much you try - it's not made that way!) as you are restricting your hip turn. It gave me a bad back for years! and some stupidly high figure like 6 million golfers worldwide also suffer in this way. You have to lose a little of the flex so the hips can turn then re-flex again on the way down.

I've always resisted the turn to create as much torque as possible, I'll try that method though to stop the pain, danger of not turning properly or leaving the weight on the left side though but I'll have a bash, cheers.
