Rory McIlroy

208 yds is nothing for a big hitting pro with a 7 iron. We had someone demonstrating long hitting at our club drove a green 280 yds slightly uphill with a putter.

I copied that picture to a couple of whatsapp groups I am in.

I get nervous standing over a putt on our 18th green, for a mid place finish in the Spring Stableford, if there is a small group of people on the picnic benches watching on.

So, this would blow my mind. This would be my body position BEFORE I hit the putt, as I crumble under the nerves. That, or it would be me after one of my mates who is the worst chipper in the world, blades one straight into my groin.

The one main thing I have taken from the Bob Rotella books is that “The World will keep on turning”….

McIlroy said on one of his interviews after that it was a 7 iron.

It was only 208 yards, which is easy for McIlroy to hit a 7 iron with a big draw
Yeh, his interview with Ian carter was on the chipping forecast pod, he said he hit 7 iron. Was going to hit 8, but saw that Bryson’s didn’t get through the air very well and plopped in the water, so he clubbed up.

Shudder to think what would’ve happened if he’d hit the 8! At best, bunker and probably a par, yikes!

I've done a lot of work on my mental game via some podcasts and books and definitely feel I react better under pressure than I did before although I think a putt to win a monthly stableford or a roll up pot is a few small steps from a green jacket and so I am sure even a seasoned pro like McIlroy must have felt the nerves

That's a predicament to be In. He will have to donate it now.
