The grand slam is winning each major Atleast once. Whilst winning each one twice is incredible, for me that’s not winning two grand slams….its something you can only do once.

Winning all 4 in one year, not sure what that would officially be called. Does it just become what the first player to do it is called

I thought the Grand Slam was doing it all in one year and the career slam was doing all four over the career ?

I can kind of get that as used to be similar when Tiger was at the top. Took me a while to realise that it wasn't his fault the media storm that followed him. For me though Rory is one of ours. He's Ryder Cup. I'll also repeat he seems a downright decent guy and just can't get on board with the whinging, arrogant, petulant unpleasant character some seem to think he is. Plus he wanted, NEEDED, this win so much and my heart will always go out to an athlete in that position.

What about someone who’s never won a Major but who’s been on the scene for ages?
What about a young star such as Hovland or Aberg…why don’t they ‘need’ to win the Masters to break through?

If spieth playing well I’m sure sky will talk about it

It will be a big thing on the over the pond broadcasts

He’s not shown much to say he can break it isn’t it like 2 wins on tour in about 5 year or something… Rory was at least playing good golf outside the majors for the last 10 year

There needs to be a lot of context

Rory is the main golf star in Europe , he is the number one and has been since he burst onto the scene

There are a number of reasons why he needed to win and why it’s such a big deal

Firstly it removes all those ghosts from 2011 , Greg Norman was a great golfer who won two majors but his career is blighted by what happened at Augusta a number of times , Rory has removed that

Secondly - up until Sunday there wasn’t a single European golfer who had achieved the Career slam , despite decades of highly talented golfers coming and going no one could do it apart from 4 US Golfers and Player that’s changed - Rory is now part of that pinnacle , he sits above all current playing golfers and alongside the games greats

It’s a sad day in any sport if it’s seen as a negative to eulogise such a rare achievement in sport

Others will of course need to win majors for the benefit of their careers or their own goals in the sport but we shouldn’t ever bemoan such a great achievement within the sport and it should be rightly applauded and shouted from the rooftops

They all needed it too...but to a much lesser extent.
Rose is in the twilight of his career..he has a Major and at his age he's not really expected to contend. His recent Major form has been nothing shirt of remarkable.
The new guys - they've got time on their hands, still learning how to contend...their time will come.
The ones who have been around and not won - they need it more than the other 2 sections...but..
I think it's almost universally accepted that, had Rory not won, it may have been the last chance mentally...no doubting his ability
Sections of the golfing world have been on Rory's back for the last 10 years - is he going to win another, is he a choker, he'll never win at Augusta etc etc.
The pressure that must put you under must make it even harder to win one, especially when you win other events as frequently as Rory does.

That's why Rory needed this win. To quieten the haters, the doubters...and to give himself a break.
He has nothing to prove now.....imagine the derision if he'd lost.....

The original Grand Slam was called that when Bobby Jones went for it I think when he won the British & US amateurs and Opens in the same year.

The same people trying to diminish the achievements will be the same who wrote him off before and would be the same to call him a bottler or a choker

It was the same with Andy Murray , Mo Farah etc -other countries celebrate their big sports stars , we always appear to have a minority that need to find a negative about them

And the Tiger slam was winning four in a row but across two different years - wasn't it? I guess they made up a name for that because nobody is ever going to do an actual Grand Slam so it's pointless even having a name for it.

Don't Irish people sometimes call it soccer aswell to separate the difference of soccer and gaelic football?

Considering he grew up in Ireland that's understandable
