I honestly can't understand why so many like him, on a personality basis - every time he's interviewed he comes across very stroppy and whiny, and a bit up himself to me. Obviously others aren't seeing it that way, but I just cannot warm to him at all.
Rory the golfer though - I won't hide from the fact that I believed he would never win the Masters. It seemed like he would overthink it every year, wanting it too much, always had a blow-up round that put him out of contention, getting in his own way, mental toughness not quite there, etc. This time though, somehow, he just about held it together and got through all that and dragged it over the line. On the one hand, he was lucky that Bryson didn't bother showing up for the final round, but on the other hand, so many times we see how hard it is to play well when your playing partner (or whatever the term is for the competitor you're paired with) is having a mare and dragging you down with him. He had some awful holes on Sunday but hit at least three absolutely unbelievable shots when it looked like the chips were down.
I did always feel he had more majors in him, just didn't think he would get the green jacket - now that's out of the way there could be no stopping him. I reckon he'll add another 3 before he hangs up his clubs. Much as I don't want him to.
I agree with you. Not really an excuse "it's the Ryder cup" it was still poor darts
Imagine if he had been at Brookline when the US celebrated before Ollie putted. He'd have gone apoplectic
I thought when Rory started with a double Bryson would have kicked on but I think his all or nothing way of playing isn't always suited to a tight battle on a course where it can go wrong very quickly
I think Rory is probably one the most uncorporate high ranked golfer out there. I like Rose, but even he has followed the “thank my sponsors….” Gumpf that’s spouted.
