Rory McIlroy

Rory will win another Masters now I think, it seems to happen there more often than at other Majors.

He's got the game, got it over the line before and wont ever have the pressure like this one.

Seve and Ollie had 12 points out of 15 and Seve had 22.5 in total. Faldo had 25 points and so both are ahead of Rory. It was also a time when the US had by far and away the stronger side each time. That is why wining over there was such a big deal.

Add in Faldo has more majors and Seve has the same and I'd also argue the depth of competition in those days was a lot deeper than now

I'd still argue Faldo or Seve with their major hauls and their RC records. The Fed Ex didn't really exist and Seve in particular was instrumental in taking golf across the globe
Seve and Faldo, both legends in the game, no doubt about it, but to win all 4 Majors is phenomenal, it can’t be downplayed about how special an achievement it is, only 5 other players to do it in the history of golf.

It’s the pinnacle

The only thing above it is winning all 4 in one season

This. The reason? They are very different and require a complete game to win them all. Plus they only come around once a year so you have to be staying at the top for a long period to be contending regularly enough to get each one over the line. History tells us it's incredibly difficult to do. Rory has done it at 35 years old. He's deserved of being called the best ever European golfer for me.

Look at the bigger picture. RC, majors, FedEx, race to Dubai, grand slam. Rory has achieved more now.

Give over. The depth of golf talent is much deeper now than it has ever been.

Ryder cup points are great. But Rory’s record in proper competitions is light years ahead of the other 2 apart from Faldos 6 majors. Rory has probably got another 7 or 8 year at the top in him. He could easily surpass that now the pressure is off.

Absolutely delighted that Rory won, he’s been my favourite golfer by a long way over the last few years. I hope he goes on to win a few more majors.

Why are people mentioning their RC record as if that actually mattered in terms of how good their career has been.

Massive respect to Rose for that last round.

So glad Bryson crumbled. He’s a liv golfer, immediate dislike from me for that. The hideous putting style makes him even less bareable. 🤣

Some nice perspective on Rory's achievement..
In the last 55 years over a dozen men have walked on the moon..
In the last 55 years just 2 men have completed the Grand Slam in golf....

Rory has joined the Immortals

It's 3 isn't it? Depending how it's counted? Jack has 3 grand slams with his last coming within the last 55 years

Ditto.

There’s one hit wonders, like Todd Hamilton, then there’s multiple winners. And then there’s those that have won all 4. And then there’s Nichlaus and Woods.

There’s the sterile numbers, “he’s won…” Sometimes, style over substance is really what gets the blood stirring. Watching Seve hit a green from the jungle was far more entertaining than watching Faldo hit yet another green from the centre of the fairway. Rory is in the Seve camp for me - hugely entertaining AND a phenomenal talent.
