Rory McIlroy Biography

I think I know how this goes...

born in northern ireland, lived in holywood. Played golf since I could walk. was really good as a junior and won loads. Went pro and had a slow start and threw away a few tournaments. Won a few and played in the Ryder Cup (which btw was AWESOME) and then won the US Open (again, AWESOME). Dating a tennis star and we might get married one day and have kiddies. I want to be world number 1, win more majors and play more Ryder Cups but that will be in books 2, 3, 4 and 5 at this rate. Am I close? I love Rory and think he is a brilliant player who will be world number 1 and win loads of majors and play more Ryder Cups but an autobiography at his age is a bit too soon for my liking
Id say he has plenty of anecdotes already, like running into Jack Nicklaus etc while out shopping during Augusta, playing at Doral and winning when he was around 10 years old etc.
I think you are being a bit unfair, the point of (auto)biographies is to show what happens behind the curtains and away from public eyes, not what is already known and dumbed down by some folks.

People who are interesting, and live diverse lives, and have the ability to write entertainingly, should have many volumes of autobiography. Clive James, David Niven, Peter usmanov.

Sportsmen should have one. After they retire.

I agree it's too early for something like this but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Rory's idea. In this day and age people like Rory are worth a lot of money and there are plenty of people waiting to make a buck off the back of it. I'm afraid that's the way the world is

It's not an AUTO biography, it's a BIOgraphy, someone else wrote it !! Anyone can do it. I may write a Biography of Homer gleened from all the info on his Blog !!!

on second thoughts who would read that

Brendy brendy brendy, you've just went and spoiled it now. The real point of biographies, auto or manual, is to make money like Jordan. They will tell you it's not, but it comes in handy when they're about 65, or in Rory's case, about 40, when his back goes.

The money aspect is a given though, when do you ever see them turning over all monies to charridy?

Totally agree, he has another 20 years potentially as a top level golfer, why an autobiography now?
It's a BIography, not an AUTOBIography. Big difference. Do we even know for sure that Rory himself had anything to do with this? It wouldn't be the first time some moneygrabbing author rushed out an unauthorised biography to cash in on someone's fame.

Good point. Is it an official one where Rory has had some degree of input (granted probably negligible but at least he knew about it) or is it someone just jumping on a lucrative bandwaggon and bashing a book out on the back of his 2011 successes and the fact he's dating the world number 1 female tennis player.

My bad on the 'auto' thing. Still feel he has jumped the gun on this one though. I am a fan of the man and want him to win loads more but for him to sanction this worries me a bit. Is this something his new management company have instigated? He doesn't need the cash though does he. I will probably end up buying it though and having a read.

I do find it suprising that people of that age produce biographies, it really is just a case of selling books while they are hot.

I do however fully expect a part 2 in a few years!!!
